With two vegan members, and actively involved in Extinction Rebellion and Music Declares Emergency, the band has been committed to environmental causes for some time. (Egghunt Records, Indie/alternative) Abby Huston Streams “Higher” Single Ft. Benét & Announces AH HA LP Out Oct 22

On “Promise,” the opening track from their sophomore album AH HA, Abby Huston takes on the voice of a brokenhearted tv-drama boy band character, very much in the same vein as Gilmore Girls’ Jesse. “Why don’t you love me, give me a reason why,” they sing solemnly, lamenting about unreturned love. Their tender words are surrounded by an eclectic mash of a hip-hop drumbeat, acoustic guitar strums, wandering piano bits, and jingle bells. Despite the jovial atmosphere, that touch of melodrama, which lingers in the corners of Huston’s songs, is a significant trademark for the Richmond-based musician. “If I’m writing a song, it’s gonna be a little moody,” Huston reveals, their words curling as they smile.

Pip Blom Share New Single & Video “You Don’t Want This” || New Album ‘Welcome Break’ Due Out 10/8 On Heavenly Recordings

Talking about the video, director Sara Elzinga said: “When I first heard You Don’t Want This, I recognized the feeling of self-consciousness; knowing that people have a certain way of looking at you, that does not necessarily comply with the image you have of yourself. The concept of a Matryoshka doll then stuck in my head, having these multiple versions of yourself that are hidden at first. The set reminds us of a dollhouse, of someone who is so comfortable in their own scenery, they forget to look at the world outside of the room. Though rather than making a music video about anxiety, I wanted the video to be about self-acceptance. Smiling back at yourself, instead of constantly criticizing which is something people tend to do.”
