“Working with Fenn O’Meally on the JOYRIDE film was a dream – a vision she was able to execute and bring to life better than I could imagine. The mood-boards took reference from the 90s – an incredibly iconic time for R&B music I’ve always wanted to pay homage to while bringing my own life into it. Joyride takes you on a magical journey while describing the challenges and benefits of one of the most powerful feelings on earth everyone craves – joy.”

Anya Hinkle captures the changing of the seasons with new single

“The past year has been unprecedented in its darkness,” the singer/songwriter confesses. “The uncertainty eats away at the fiercest sense of discipline, at any sense of purpose; it’s felt very difficult to continue moving forward at times. When I wrote this song, I planned to write words. But there weren’t any. I was living beyond language. Tears rolled down my face onto my guitar as I explored the fingerboard for chords that revealed new facets of this journey inside.”

As Folk Alley noted in the album’s premiere, “We don’t have to dig very deep into Melissa Carper’s rich vein of songwriting and sing before we hit gold, for from the opening note on her new album her shimmering and pure vocals and the lush instrumental carpet on which her voice floats glimmer with a vibrant sheen that tells us we’ve struck it rich here.” “On Daddy’s Country Gold, Melissa Carper demonstrates why the Great American Songbook has been so enduring. While Carper’s effortless bass lines and her band’s elegant piano accents recall an era we now call ‘classy,’ it’s Carper’s ingenious songwriting that takes the spotlight,” No Depression said. “Daddy’s Country Gold isn’t simply an easygoing album with a vintage sound; for Carper, it’s an effort to retrieve stories deliberately buried in the past…By using sounds straight from the past, she is queering history.”

Trapper Schoepp announces album with new single + video out now

“River Called Disaster,” is about feeling broken down by the compulsion for more. “The river is an apt metaphor for the way we can get swept up in our destructive desires. This past year, social isolation has exacerbated these kinds of feelings and challenged the way we cope. Many of us are bottoming out and trying to make our way back to the surface,” Schoepp says. “On May Day, I use the natural world as a motif because I feel a strong connection to it. Nature is something real that I can feel, see, smell and touch, and it’s a place where I’ve found comfort in these times.”

With its glam rock stomp and Stone’s haunting vocals, “Fire In Me” is one of Sixty Summers’ most instantly striking tracks. Co-written with Dann Hume, the glamorous pound of “Fire In Me” mirrors the song’s lyrical content, which describes the feeling of “fire in your belly” — the ability to be, or do, anything one wants. Brightened by a “Bond-like” string section from album co-producer Thomas Bartlett, “Fire In Me” easily evokes the heat and strength of Stone’s lyrics.

Ragan’s eloquent songcraft fuels the acoustic guitar-driven “Heaven Can Wait.” With minimal production and an upbeat gallop, the track highlights his confessional lyricism as it builds into an emotionally charged promise, “Heaven can wait, it’s true, I still need you.” It illuminates the scope of his voice as a singer and as a writer, magnifying another side of his artistry altogether. The accompanying cinematic lyric video depicts Ragan leafing through faded memories before striking a match to leave them in the dust on a beach.

Luwten Shares “Sleeveless,” Announces Album Draft

Luwten takes its name from a Dutch word which simply means ‘place without wind’. Amsterdam-based Tessa Douwstra adopted it as the moniker for her abstract pop project, so enamoured was she with the creative process of “working in a total vacuum”. Whilst her 2020 EP ‘Door’ was in Tessa’s own words; “A study of a perfectionist who acknowledges that everything’s in a constant state of flux”, the material on Draft marks a determined move towards opening up a little, allowing a little fresh air, some outside influence, to rush in.

There are few things that are more healing than getting the hell out of town. Maybe it’s a solo trip. Maybe you bring a friend. Definitely a lot of music. Don’t say a thing to anybody. Just get in the car and go. Work it out on the road.
