FREDO BANG RELEASES NEW SINGLE “CLOCK OUT” VIA DEF JAM RECORDINGS
With his deep, barking drawl and a natural affinity for melody, Fredo Bang (Fredrick Givens) is the next rhymer to rise out the Bayou. The highs and lows of his life encompass turning down a scholarship at Texas Southern U. in order to study closer to home, and a stiff jail sentence for aggravated battery that was commuted in 2018. At age 23, the Baton Rouge native’s rhymes have now won the South.
LA psych-pop standouts SWIMM share “Feel Better”
Los Angeles psych-pop outfit, SWIMM, officially launched the next chapter in their creative journey with the release of the brand new single and video, “Feel Better” via a premiere on American Songwriter. The track offers solace and hope to a young LA woman who has fallen victim to “the cliches of men in Hollywood taking advantage of starry-eyed transplants for the first time” as vocalist, Chris Hess (a.k.a Cookie), puts it. As the guitars roll over a soul-soothing beat accented by a myriad of carefully arranged synths, the song’s protagonist let’s his friend know it is ok for her to slow down and do what she needs to do to feel good.
Last Friday, Secret Machines shared Awake in the Brain Chamber, the band’s first new full-length album released in 12 years. Featuring songs written, recorded and produced over the course of the last decade, the 8-song album tells the stories that were left unsaid. Awake in the Brain Chamber is out now, globally, on all streaming platforms. Standard vinyl is available for purchase via Bandcamp, following a sold-out first pressing of the limited edition LP.
With a heavier edge, driving beat and lyrics that wouldn’t be out of place in a protest song, “Do It Right,” the latest single to be taken from Company Store, leans towards punk influences. The call to action in the title encourages the listener to fight for what they believe in and to raise their voice to be heard.
Payton Moormeier Releases Official Video for “Habits”
Music has helped the Georgia-born and North Carolina-raised singer gain the confidence to express his innermost thoughts through self-penned originals. After discovering Metallica at seven-years-old, his mom bought him a guitar, and Payton taught himself how to play by consuming countless hours of lessons on YouTube. He later widened his musical palette by listening to Post Malone, blackbear, and more.
Titled ‘Loaded’ and produced by former Santa Cruz guitarist Joonas Parkkonen, the song is a taste of what’s to come with Reckless Love’s fifth studio album; the follow-up to 2016’s ‘InVader’, this anticipated outing will be available in 2021.

“Work Friends” speaks to the masks we wear in the workplace. Forced relationships playing out in environments unnaturally curated to make us our most productive. This track is a covert dance party for the freak hiding behind a tightly buttoned shirt and uncomfortable shoes.
Ethereal singer/songwriter and cellist Tallie Gabriel has unveiled her debut solo E.P. Little Death, a collection of tender hopeful and heartbroken stories written in the aftermath of and reflection on a breakup, featuring singles “Story,” “Hummingbird,” “Laundry,” and cover of “Who Knows Where the Time Goes.”
VAR began as a solo project of Júlíus Óttar (vocals, guitar, piano) in 2013, but soon after, he realized that his vision for VAR could not be fully realized without additional collaborators — so he called upon those who were close. Soon his wife Myrra Rós (synths, vocals) and his brother Egill Björgvinsson (bass) joined the band along with friends Arnór Jónasson (guitar) and Andri Freyr Þorgeirsson (drums). With this lineup, VAR wrote and recorded the EP Vetur and performed for several years building a fiercely loyal fanbase. With time and competing responsibilities, Myrra Rós was pulled in a different direction and drummer Sigurður Ingi Einarsson replaced Andri Freyr to solidify the band’s current and more concentrated lineup. It was this transition that served as a catalyst for the reimagining of VAR’s sound.
