New Release Alert: Sophie Beem, Petty
Her latest single “Petty” explores a deeper side, pulling from her past experiences in the dating world. A complicated relationship led Sophie to write this personal song that aims to empower young women in similar situations. When describing the motivation behind the single, Sophie said, “Petty is about the mind games we play to get attention from the people we like; from trying to make them jealous by kissing other people, to pushing them away on purpose and playing hard to get. Petty asks “Are you finally done being petty?” I wrote it as an anthem for everyone who has experienced this frustrating aspect of a relationship.”

The highly anticipated Reggae Gold 2020 will be released on August 28th on VP Records. The album compilation includes some of the biggest reggae and dancehall hits over the last year and more. Pre-orders will be available tomorrow, August 7th.

Pulling up from half-court on his haters, the Only The Family-signed rapper shares “Check The Score,” his latest anthem. The song has an appearance from Atlanta rapper Yung Mal, whose fast-talking, smooth-flowing delivery provides a thrilling contrast with Memo’s guttural, emphatic, and deliberate bark. Rhyming above a rapid high-note guitar arpeggio, Mal and Memo take a look around at their competition and finds it lacking–if rap is a game, they’re winning in a blowout: “Brought this glizzy betta check the score/That boy on the floor.” In the video, directed by Diesel Films, Memo600 and Yung Mal turn up in ATL backstreets with a crew of homies, including Mal’s frequent rhyme partner Lil Quill, flashing cash and posing by a red Lamborghini.

“I wrote Alien when I was a patient in one of southern Israel’s psychiatric departments. I would often refer to myself as an alien that speaks a different language and has a different understanding of things than humans do. I wrote the song in accordance with how I felt whether it was a “wrong” way of thinking or not. It was my truth and I wanted to stick to it with a sort of ‘fuck you, I’m depressed’ attitude. Although the lyrics are harsh and the instrumentation is aggressive, I did my best to keep the song melodic” says Yoni.

Oslo-based, indie folk artist Lasse Passage shares his new single, “Heartbeat,” along with a Summer Remix of the track. “Heartbeat” is the second single from the upcoming album, Sunwards, due out August 28th via Sofa Music. Thirsty Curses to Release Music Video on 8/4/2020 – “Bruises On Your Shoulders”
Raleigh, N.C.-based indie rock band Thirsty Curses has released a new music video for their song “Bruises On Your Shoulders,” which is from Thirsty Curses’ self-titled label debut. The music video was directed by band member Clayton Herring and filmed at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center theatre in Wilson, NC.
