It is a constant fist fight between the greatness of the ’70s and the ’60s. Dictator Ship is the prime and natural energy source that the world has been searching for. Hook up the power net and let the world enjoy! So begins the story of the band now known as Dictator Ship…

“I’m super pumped about this one.” David said of his second single “Kind of Like It” , “it has JJ Cale/Mark Knopfler vibes going on but also lots of Grateful Dead. I’d been listening to so much Dead over the last year and the thing I love most about them is the sense of fun and curiosity in their music. They explore the great sounds of American music together in a joyful way alongside their audience. I love that. I want to embody that spirit in how we play as a band and how we interact with our fans. So, that’s what this one is about. The joy of ripping together, of living together and sharing that, with all of you. Life may be short and things may be fleeting, but I kind of like it! Hope you dig the track. NYC band The Electric Mess share dystopian punk single “City Sun”
Garage-punk band The Electric Mess share a new single “City Sun” today! Self-described as a dystopian proto-punk ripper, its timing is darkly appropriate, although unintended, with NYC, and the world, coming to a grinding halt over the COVID-19 virus. Ghost Cult Magazine premiered the track, hailing it as an “uplifting, triumph of weirdos cutting through the gray of these times.” “City Sun” comes ahead of The Electric Mess’ fifth album The Electric Mess V, due out April 17th.
The band explains the meaning behind the song:
“72,” is a love story that takes place on a city bus. The 72 bus line, now defunct, previously ran in North Seattle in 2009, around the time lead vocalists Kim West and Ryan Devlin began dating. The song reimagines the now-married couples’ romantic reconnection taking place on that city bus as they’re both coming home from their respective dismal and mundane work days. West heartbrokenly sings “I spend my days with people that just look right through me, wishing someone would look at me like you used to.” The instrumentation on “72” mirrors the clangs, thumps, and bustle of a crowded city bus as West works up the courage to ask, “So what are you doing tonight? I ain’t got nothing tonight. My stops just after the light. People can start again right?”
