As immediately evident from the galvanizing live video, recorded in the band’s hometown of Atlanta, “Void” is Algiers at their visceral, mutinous peak—a three-minute adrenaline-surge of hypnotic and infectious breakneck punk rock, with Matt Tong’s thunderous drums, guitarist Lee Tesche’s distorted shards and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Mahan’s propulsive bass work coming together around frontman Franklin James Fisher’s feverish recitation: “Got to find a way to get out of it!”

Cathedral Bells is the project of Matthew Messore. After traveling across the country with various different bands, Messore returned to his hometown of Cassadaga, FL and began working on home recordings. As The Line of Best Fit put it, the scope of Messore’s work is “an exploration of the smudged reds of The Cure, hazy pinks of Chromatics and gluey browns of DIIV.”

of Montreal recently announced their new album UR FUN via Polyvinyl Record Co. and today they’re sharing another track/video for “Polyaneurism.” The “Poly-curious” indie-pop track describes the twists and turns of modern romance, namely, dating someone who is dating someone else. Of the video, director (and longtime of Montreal drummer) Clayton Rychlic says “Kevin wanted to tell the story of Polyaneurism’s lyrics using dogs as the characters. Billie was perfect for playing the role of the nervous third in a love triangle, and many friends pitched in to help create a world of dog art and dog dreams.”
BIG SCENIC NOWHERE: second single streaming now via New Noise!
Heavy rock collective BIG SCENIC NOWHERE (with members of Fu Manchu, Yawning Man, Mos Generator, as well as Nick Oliveri, Alain Johannes, Per Wiberg) unveil the second excerpt taken from their debut LP ‘Vision Beyond Horizon’, due out January 31st on Heavy Psych Sounds.
New song “Hidden Wall” was written by guitarist Bob Balch (Fu Manchu) and vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tony Reed (Mos Generator), with Gary Arce (Yawning Man) rocking all of the guitar solos, and Per Wiberg (former Opeth, Spiritual Beggars) on additional mellotron. Rhythm section is driven by Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson) on bass and Bill Stinson (Fu Manchu) on drums.
Directed, shot, and edited by Alisa Akay, the “Wing Of Night” video’s concept juxtaposes imagery reflecting the song’s lyrical themes – the embrace of pain, struggle, darkness, and inevitable (yet not truly final) death – with footage of THE WRAITH’s lauded live performance, centered around frenetic frontman/poet Davey Bales. The band filmed the video over two days in a historic haunted theater in North Hollywood, just around the corner from producer Mat Mitchell’s studio where they recorded Gloom Ballet almost exactly a year prior. The band was keen to work with director Alisa Akay because, as Mitchell’s fiancée, she was intimately familiar with their music.

Lev Snowe spends his days tinkering away in his bedroom studio building up his psychedelic Xanadu. Raised on the warm hiss of ’70s soul jazz recordings, the slack chill of the L.A. beat scene, and the nostalgic synth swaying of Boards of Canada, this Canadian songwriter/producer creates an atmosphere that is both washed out and danceable — pensive, yet uplifting. Like a wandering mind spent cooped up all winter, Snowe’s music never sits still for too long. Lush electronics bloom around shimmering guitars and the wonky grit of ’90s era hip hop grooves, all while Snowe’s wistful lyricism drifts hypnotically in and out of focus—a carefree soundtrack fit for either chaotic house parties or those endless summer nights spent escaping reality.
