Racing ahead of the beat with his lightning-quick flow, Rucci’s unleashes his bars in short declarative bursts. Giving a glimpse into a turnt-up afternoon in Inglewood, Rucci shares “Function In The Hood,” his latest video. Alternating crisp black-and-white shots and grainy, VHS-style footage, “Function In The Hood” finds Rucci mobbing with 40 of his closest friends, including family members, Inglewood OGs, and fellow L.A. rappers. The track and video features a guest appearance from South Central native AzChike, previously featured on Rucci’s 2018 breakout hit “Light It Up,” who stops by to see how Inglewood functions. Premiered by HipHopDX, “Function In The Hood” is the latest video from Tako’s Son, Rucci’s recently-released debut album.
Dedicated to Rucci’s father, Tako, Tako’s Son explores Rucci’s past and his love for his neighborhood. A well-known Inglewood figure of Salvadorian descent, Tako was recently deported, stranding father and son on two sides of a national border. On the album, Rucci channels his Pops as best he can, relaying life lessons through breakneck bars and tight street stories, laid over hyperactive L.A. production. With appearances from fellow L.A. heavy-hitters like Shoreline Mafia, RJMrLA, Kalan.frfr, 1TakeJay, and more, Tako’s Son is available everywhere via Mackk & Company/EMPIRE.
