Jack and Kevin both found themselves in therapy after particularly bad breakups, and began to work on music together with no goal beyond self-expression. These sessions ended up becoming their own form of therapy for the pair, who quickly wrapped their forthcoming Stages EP, with each song exploring a different stage of “Breakup Grief”.

Bleak, dark and embodying the distress of growing up in New Hampshire, Sallowed is the guttural response of wanting to escape where one grew up but still loving it at the same time. Failed relationships, injuries, and loss entwine to form a more direct display of emotional heaviness. Performed by LAVINIA’s Nate Shumaker, Jon McMahan, Brendan Ford, and Mike DiTullio, Sallowed encapsulates a long coming description of depression and a will to live at the same time. The album was engineered by John Helmig and Eric Mitchell, and mixed and mastered by Erin Leigh Burke-Moran.
Andrew Combs is set to release Ideal Man on September 20th via New West Records. The 11-song set was produced by Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby, Benjamin Booker) and follows Combs’ critically acclaimed 5 Covers & A Song EP which featured his interpretations of songs by The Strokes, Radiohead, Blake Mills, Lucinda Williams, and Loudon Wainwright III. While Combs may be best known as a singer/songwriter in the classic 1970s Laurel Canyon sense of the term, he proves the true versatility of his work here, often setting his acoustic aside in favor of atmospheric synthesizers and distorted electric guitars. Captured live in Cohen’s Brooklyn studio, Ideal Man also features Combs’ longtime collaborators, Drummer Dom Billet and guitarist/keyboardist/bassist Jerry Bernhardt.
