Consumer Alert: Study Rings Alarm About Dangers of Online Health Remedies

Research released today raises new concerns about do-it-yourself ‘health remedies’ found online — which can include anything from ointments to furniture and home ‘baby-proofing.’

The study, conducted at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, specifically took a closer look at homemade sunscreen recipes on Pinterest and found that while nearly all of the pins portrayed some level of sun protection, natural or homemade versions of children’s products may not be as safe or effective as they claim to be.

Experts say store-bought sunscreen is a better choice because it is regulated by the FDA and must have a proven level of protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
