Getting your roof renovated is a major project. That is why you should take time to find the right person to do the job for you. Do not just trust anybody to work on your home. Here are the essential questions that you should ask when you are trying to find the right contractor for the job.
- Are you licensed? Ensure that the contractor’s license is valid, and is for the municipality where the job is going to get done.
- Can you give me some references? Check out past jobs that the contractor has done. This will show you the quality of work that they do. You can also talk to other people they have worked for in the past, so that you know what to expect from them. Check if the roofer was able to complete the projects on time, and whether they were able to stick to the project budget.
- Will you handle the permits? Regardless of the municipality that you are in, chances are that you will need some permits for work to be done on your roof. Ask the roofer if they are willing to get your permits. If they are reluctant to do so, then this is not a good sign. They should be able to know and get the permits that you need even when doing Sunshine coast repairs.
- What are the terms of payment? Talk about how much it will take to do the job, and how you are going to make those payments. Also, ask about the acceptable method of payment. In addition, ask the contractor about the deposit terms. Ideally, you shouldn’t have to pay more than a 10% deposit until work starts on the site.
- How long will the project take? The contractor should be able to give you a timeline for the completion of the project. Ask them how long they will take, and what happens in the case of weather related delays. Also, find out whether they will be working on other projects when they are still working on your project as well.
- Will you sub-contract the job? Find out if the contractor will be sub-contracting the work to a third party. If they will, get to know more about who the sub-contractor is, and whether they are licensed to do the job. In addition, find out whether the sub-contractor is insured.
- Will you clean up the site? Ask the contractor if they are planning on cleaning up the site after they have completed the job. Ideally, they should be able to clean up the site and leave it clean with no debris. This should be included in part of the cost that you are paying them for, so no debris should be left behind.
- Do you have any training for the job? It is essential that you hire someone who has the skills to get the job done. A well trained professional is more likely to do a good job than one who has not been trained. Therefore, having vocational training is not a must but a plus.
