New Katie Von Schleicher: “Party Dawn”
Von Schleicher on “Party Dawn:” “On a break from touring this winter I went alone to Maryland, where I am originally from, and made these two songs, taking the gear I’ve very happily accrued since making my album Shitty Hits. I built a fire, I set up my gold drum kit, I saw a ton of stars and felt smushed by silence, and it was lonely, so I made these songs. “Glad to Be Here” is where I find myself right now. “Party Dawn” is tied to Maryland, to my friend and our adolescence. Both are a bridge toward the subject matter of my next record. Back in New York, my collaborator Adam Brisbin (Sam Evian, Jolie Holland, Buck Meek) contributed guitar and bass, and Julian Fader (Ava Luna, Frankie Cosmos, Nadine, Palehound) mixed it.”
Billie Eilish And Khalid Release Official Video For “Lovely”
After a massively successful release week for two of America’s most exciting artists, Billie Eilish and Khalid, and their track “Lovely,” the pair has released an official video for their stunning new ballad today. Directed by Taylor Cohen, the video concept was the brainchild of 16-year-old Eilish who wanted to portray the notion of being hopelessly trapped with another. As The New York Times accurately observes “Lovely” is the song of someone inextricably attached or trapped.” The glass box representing a situation they cannot seem to escape.
After a rapturous response to their first singles “We Are All Going To Die” and “Distant Star”, which saw the band sit at no.1 as Hype Machine’s most blogged about artist in the world for nearly a week – no mean feat for a noisy guitar band – and their first UK performance at Birthdays earlier this week, Oslo power-trio Spielbergs are sharing their debut EP in full a day early alongside a passionate write-up at Stereogum HERE.

Since the advent of MP3s and streaming services, many of us have started listening to music in the form of playlists of songs and genres in random sequences. By contrast, bands have oddly come to cling more to their assigned genres; not so with Austin, TX’s Golden Dawn Arkestra. Forever promoting belief in the transcendence of time and space, this performance collective continues to experiment with a myriad of musical styles & genres, all the while remaining true to their expansive cinematic sound.
The official music video for Brent Cobb’s new single, “Come Home Soon,” is premiering today at The FADER, who calls it, “A sweet song for a road warrior like Cobb…such a sensitivity to time and people in his songs,” and adds, “Can’t wait for this album, it’s gonna be the summer soundtrack.”
Dreampop artist MOONZz has teamed up with Kick Kick Snare to premiere her brand new focus track, “Dissolve.” The song is the second listen off of her upcoming EP, Aftershock, set to drop Friday, May 18. “Dissolve” is dark and hazy, a story of living in the moment and watching concerns slip away. The gorgeous song combines the most captivating elements of alternative, R&B and pop to create a dreamy, resonating landscape.
