The Pros and Cons of Installing Artificial Grass

The use of synthetic grass is increasingly becoming popular, and before you decide to get yours, it is important to consider both the upsides and downsides of the same. Overall, the pros tend to outweigh the cons.

Here are some of the advantages of using artificial grass:

  • It can occasionally be used without wearing off

As compared to natural grass, artificial grass can be used many times for some purposes and still last for many years.  It can be used as a playground for children, relaxing during home vacations with family and other many purposes.

  • It can withstand harsh weather conditions

This is a huge load off your back as you won’t have to go through the hassle of replanting the grass once it has dried up due to hot or more hostile weather conditions. It can withstand more stresses to it as compared to natural grass. Whether the weather is sunny, rainy or windy, the grass remains evergreen.

  • Synthetic is better than natural grass

On most occasions, you may find that natural grass suffers hostility of the environment such as grass feeding creatures.  When the environment is not that friendly for planting natural grass, synthetic grass is a far much better solution as no possible harm can befall it.

  • It is the best solution when grass maintenance cannot be carried out.

You might be very busy and rarely get time to clean up your compound, including mowing your lawn to keep the grass short. Or maybe you are too old to manage the maintenance of your environment. In such scenarios, synthetic grass is ideal as it saves you the energy and time needed to maintain it.

  • Synthetic grass can be easily maintained

Plastic grass is very easy to maintain. This is because it does not require any watering after it is installed. All you need to do is clean it up with little water just to get rid of the dirt that accumulates on it. Cleaning is also not a hard task since you can choose to clean it by vacuuming it, sweeping it with a broom or using water from a hose pipe.

The downsides

Well, it is said that anything that is good has to have a bad side also. In this case, synthetic grass is not excluded. It has some cons that you should also consider before choosing the type of installation that you want. Some of the cons are outlined below:

  • A synthetic grass installation that is more permanent, especially the modern one. It cannot be easily removed once it has been installed.
  • Permanent markings are used to draw and sew lines into the synthetic grass, which makes it look artificial.
  • Unlike natural grass, the friction that comes about with the plastic, synthetic grass is likely to cause bruises and abrasions on the hands or feet when rubbed.
  • Since some pathogens on the grass are hard to get rid of, periodic disinfection of the grass is necessary.
  • Since the synthetic grass is plastic, it tends to retain a lot of heat from the sun, making it difficult to play or relax on when it is hot.
