Today, rising rock band Wallows make their Atlantic Records debut with brand-new song and video “Pictures of Girls.” The effortlessly cool track is the first single from the band’s forthcoming Spring EP and was premiered yesterday by SiriusXM’s Alt Nation. The EP will be released this spring and was recorded with Grammy award-winning producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Alvvays, Future Islands). The video for “Pictures of Girls,” produced and directed by Shelly, was shot on super 8 and digital in Atwater Village and Downtown LA, and candidly captures the spirit of suburban youth and the unique personalities of band members Braeden Lemasters, Cole Preston, and Dylan Minnette.
The brainchild of Paramore drummer Zac Farro, HALFNOISE originally formed as a solo creative outlet, but has evolved over the years into a full band comprised of some of his closest friends and creative collaborators. On the Flowerss EP, Zac’s acute understanding of rhythm is on full display, often letting the drums and bass guitar lead the track’s instrumental composition, while his attention to vocal melody remains front-and-center. The evolution of HALFNOISE’s sound between 2016’s Sudden Feeling LP and last year’s The Velvet Face EP shows the band taking tones you would find on a record from The Beatles and presenting them with an updated psychedelic surf vibe akin to The Beach Boys.
Sufjan Stevens to perform “Mystery of Love” at the Academy Awards
Sufjan Stevens will perform “Mystery of Love” at this year’s Academy Awards. One of Stevens’ three contributions to the soundtrack of Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name (Sony Pictures Classics), “Mystery of Love” is nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song.
Further nominees in the category are “Mighty River” from Mudbound, “Remember Me” from Coco, “Stand Up for Something” from Marshall and “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.
The 90th Oscars®, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
The track is taken from the new album Every Third Thought released February 9th (King Baby/GMG.) This is the follow up to Duchovny’s music debut, 2015’s Hell or Highwater and was recorded at Atomic Sound Brooklyn in December 2016 and late 2017. The album is available in digital format and on streaming services with plans for CD and vinyl to be announced soon.
