Jorja Smith, at just 20 years old, has had an already remarkable career in a short span of time, culminating last year with an opening spot on Bruno Mars’ US tour and winning the BRITS Critic’s Choice Award for 2018, the first independent artist ever to do so. Today she shares the first of new music coming this year, a deeply moving and personal ballad titled “Let Me Down” featuring UK grime artist Stormzy. An instantly relatable theme, Smith notes “Let Me Down is about meaning very little to someone but being okay with that even though it hurts.”
Smith adds “A dream of mine is to write a Bond theme tune. When I am writing music I sometimes envision a video playing along side. ‘Let me down’ sounded quite Bondy and when I was listening to it I imagined it being played in a Bond film but during a scene when James Bond has gone down into an underground, dimly lit, secret bar and he approaches the Bond girl who is sitting at the bar looking very guilty because she’s done something bad and let him down.”
“Let Me Down” first premiered on Beats 1 as Zane Lowe’s World Record and is available now for purchase / stream. Announced last week, Jorja will be making her Coachella debut this year, followed by a US headling tour -dates and purchase stream link below.
