It’s been just over six months since Northampton-bred rapper, Slowthai, barged his way to the fore with his debut EP, ‘slowitdownn’. The project quickly earned him a cult following and plenty of industry co-signs and nods from fashion innovators like Places & Faces and Patta, all of them endorsing his refreshing hybrid of experimental rap-grime.
Canadian DJ/Producer & Songwriter Shaun Frank quickly mastered the art of collaboration. In the last couple years, he’s released tunes with Steve Aoki, Oliver Heldens, DVBBS, and KSHMR, all the while putting out massive hit remixes for The Chainsmokers, Duke Dumont, & Kiesza. Frank’s knack for teamwork recently earned him a writing credit on this years biggest No. 1 world wide hit: he helped The Chainsmokers’ Andrew Taggart write & compose “Closer” in the back of a tour bus.

Simon Issa “Can’t Get Enough”
Simon Issa’s debut single was released last Friday and is a deep and dark track about unanswered love. About the song he tells us:
“You think you have chemistry with someone and you feel that you have put a lot of effort into the relationship only to realize that the other person hasn’t really been into you. You sort of understand what is going on but you have your “pink glasses” on and can’t see it for what it is. When reality bites you are the only one who has been serious, with real feelings, so you realize that you seriously need to move on.
I wanted to write a song you can relate to from both perspectives; lovers and friends only relationship”

The reason for their unification is to support Demelza, a hospice which provides support and respite for the parents and families of terminally ill children with special needs. The project is inspired by a little boy called Jaden who is suffering with an incurable brain disease. Despite his prognosis, he celebrated his 11th birthday in August, against all his doctor’s expectations, which has further inspired the project to achieve even greater exposure for the cause.

Brooklyn-based, queer pop artist Felix and the Future shares stunning visuals for “Karen,” out exclusively via Cool Hunting, who raves, “With the inherent theatricality in ‘Karen’by Felix and the Future, the musician (along with co-director Michael St Onge) has crafted a music video of epic proportions. A ballad with electronic twists receives visual support from warped religious iconography and a precious metal plating throughout.”
Nick Zanca (formerly Mister Lies) announces new band Quiet Friend
About “Safe”, Quiet Friend shares: “…it was one of the first demos Steven, Alex and I put together for the album — to borrow a line from Arthur Russell, it’s a reflection on losing your taste for the nightlife. The song went through several drafts before reaching its final form, but from the start we were trying to capture a claustrophobic night out where sub-bass and shallow, drunken conversation become indistinguishable. Play this one loud on a walk home from a bad night out.”
KRANE Unveils Highly-Anticipated Fallout LP
Gifted electronic music producer KRANE spawns an auditory exploration into a dystopian abyss on his highly-anticipated debut album, Fallout. Through an episodic 10-track package boasting numerous stand out records including “Nobody But You,” “Next World,” “Hollow,” and “Feel It,” KRANE paints a cinematic backdrop saturated with hard-hitting yet musically sophisticated trap and anthemic future bass. Fallout is augmented by a talented collection of guests including SLUMBERJACK, QUIX and graves, amongst others. In his own words,
“Much of my personal sound and background, developed over the years of listening to and creating music, is represented in this album. It also draws widely from not only music, but also the aesthetics of movies, television and literature I love,” KRANE states. “But FALLOUT is as much a celebration of where my sound is today as it is a recognition that I will leave part of it behind now that this album is in the wild.”

Co-directed by Team leader Ian Parton along with his neighbor Bosie Vincent, the video was partially filmed during the album recording sessions in Detroit and features several guest singers of The Detroit Youth Choir. As Ian explains: “We were looking to make something that takes the marching band feel of the song and puts it through a kaleidoscope – something trippy and Technicolor, making geometry out of everyday patterns. I found this marching band in Jacksonville who had the best bright purple and red costumes and we arranged to film with them just a week before the floods hit. The vocals for “Semicircle Song” were recorded in Detroit with a bunch of teenagers who we were filming as they were singing – so the footage in the video were the actual takes that made it onto the record.”

Earlier today, electric doom-folk artist Lauren Lakis released her latest track “Mourn The Dead” via Spill Magazine in advance of her debut solo album Ferocious in Early 2018.
Artist Statement: “Mourn The Dead” was one of the last songs I wrote for the album, when I was beginning to reclaim my life post-trauma. As I was tapping into my own anger, I was thinking a lot about the systematic repression of emotions in men, and how it ends up usually only being expressed as anger. I make reference to it via the line, “All the words that we swallow, all the walls that you hit…”

Driven, yet atmospheric guitars take a front seat, along with confident vocal melodies carried by words of hopefulness, frustration, societal indignation and spiritual freedom. “The following contains a graphic interpretation of a true crime story that includes potentially disturbing images and lyrical content,” says ANNIHILATOR’s Jeff Waters. “We realize this is not exactly the most pleasant subject to write about, however, in the world of being a writer and musician, sometimes these stories can spawn a song! While many of the songs from the new album For The Demented have positive messages in them, this one does not!
