Anti-Summer Fuzz from NE’s ‘hottest new band’

The Yada Yada Yadas are a recently formed Durham-based alternative rock band that have truly mastered the craft of writing beautifully silly pop songs, and burying them deep beneath piles of dirt, feedback, and uncompromisingly creamy fuzz.

Influenced by bands such as Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The Flaming Lips, it’s clear to hear the noisy alternative U.S influence upon the songwriting of Vocalist/ Guitarist Mark Owens. This Influence runs deep into the bands identity, transcending just music, visible in everything from the Seinfeld inspired band name, through to the lyrics of the bands debut track Oceans, which playfully references Bill Hicks during its 3 minutes of anti-summer fuzz.

“All The Pretty Girls” is #1

When Kenny Chesney heard “All The Pretty Girls,” he recognized a song that captured the surging desire for now, the will to find someone who truly understands and the inherent anxiety that prefaces coming of age. Like “Young,” the breakthrough smash from No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems, the complexity of all that rushing desire is a pretty simple thing, one that Chesney knows only too well.

THE FLYING STARS OF BROOKLYN NY “MY GOD HAS A TELEPHONE”

Debut solo single from Aaron Frazer of Durand Jones & The Indications. Aaron’s super sweet, silvery falsetto was featured on “Is It Any Wonder?” on The Indications’ debut LP, but Aaron steps out here with some lowdown gospel soul with some help from friends including Eli Paperboy Reed.

VVELLS “Island of Me”

Following the release of their funk-inflected debut track Green Lights, Athens, Greece-based super-group VVELLS (members of Keep Shelly In Athens, Sillyboy, and Whereswilder) return with the dreamy drone of follow-up single “Island of Me.” Taken from their forthcoming EP, Island of Me, (out 10/13 via Very Jazzed/Frenchkiss Label Group), the new single’s molasses-thick textures provide a pillow-soft bed for vocalist Babis’ musings on their journey toward self-love. Cavernous guitar licks open the track, which soon transform into an expansive synth-scape that’s equal parts harsh noise and angelic Hammond organ. Babis coos about finding inner peace, comparing the ecstasy of self-acceptance to arriving at a surreal tropical island. “How I’ll finally be able to rest,” he rejoices, hazy vocals unfolding over starlit keys, “in the island of me.”

an ASTONISHING new single from George Glew

George Glew will release his new single ‘Home Love’ on October 5th via Atomizer Records. It is the third track to be released as part of his plan to release a new single every month for the next year.

Explaining the meaning behind the song, he explains “it’s a song about empathizing with someone who is at their lowest. Knowing that everyone goes through hardships and low points and doing something to help that person. Acknowledging that you’ve been through a time similar to this person creates a vulnerability which I think comes across in the song”.

Hollywood Undead To Star In Their Own Comic Book – “Undead Origins”

It’s a very small list of bands that can claim they’ve had their own comic book published and now Hollywood Undead can add their name to that list. On December 6th, Hollywood Undead will partner with Heavy Metal Magazine to star in their own comic: “Undead Origins.”

Written by Paul Allor, the comic follows Hollywood Undead’s members as they discover a deep conspiracy; all across Los Angeles, people are acting unnaturally happy and compliant. People in the counterculture are suddenly fitting into society, finding square jobs and loving them. Is it clones? Robots? Alien replacements? The crew discovers that in reality, it’s a system of mental and physical alteration, funded by a powerful tech mogul-turned City Councilman. And what’s more, the “victims” aren’t victims at all; they’re undergoing the process voluntarily. But our guys won’t stand for that. They work to destroy the facility, assisted by like-minded people from across the city.

“No More Stones”

The song itself is about interpersonal strain. A relationship, whether it’s romantic or platonic, is an ongoing compromise that can get pretty messy when you toss both parties’ aspirations, promises and expectations into the mix.

John K. Samson’s Prayer For Ruby Elm

Every year in Winnipeg, which is home to both John K. Samson and the largest population of elm trees in North America, the city battles the dreaded Dutch elm disease by locating trees that are already infected, spray-painting them with an orange dot, and then sending crews out to cut them down in the hope that the disease won’t spread to other trees.

In 2013 director Erika MacPherson asked John to write a song for her film May We Grow, about interconnectedness, life and death, and the global forest, told through one of those condemned elm trees in front of her house in Winnipeg. John wrote “Prayer for Ruby Elm,” which later appeared on his 2016 solo album Winter Wheat.

Sad Palace release Greek mythology inspired visuals for latest track ‘Frostbeat’

South Coast quartet Sad Palace reveal the video to their latest single, Frostbeat, released via Kissability last month. Affirming the given name, the track is a soulful gem, built on icy grooves and jazzy breaks before descending into the crispest killer riff you’ll hear this side of good taste.

The band explain the themes, and trials and tribulations, behind creating the accompanying visual: “The video is a representation of some of the more frustrating aspects of being creative, with parallels to a bit of Greek mythology. We nearly bit off more than our skinny frames could chew lugging that organ up and the sunburn was spectacular.”

Toadies have unveiled the new animated video for the track ‘Broke Down Stupid’ off their latest release The Lower Side Of Uptown (out Sept. 8th via Kirtland Records.) Guitarist Clark Vogeler on the song: “The story at the heart of Broke Down Stupid, the song, was born from the imagination (or was it memory?) of our singer, Vaden. As the story goes, our narrator goes out and gets seriously f#%ked up, and subsequently creates quite a mess of things. It’s a twisted story that deserves a twisted video.” He adds: “It sounded to me as if the song was essentially about guilt and penance.

The Persian Leaps “Even Less” Video

Kicking off in a lively, upbeat fashion full of power-pop hooks and indie rock riffs, The Persian Leaps single “Even Less” may at first seem a bright pop melody, but the accompanying music video, released today, gives a weighty and introspective reflection of the track’s lyrics. Pushed to levels of absurdity, the video’s surreal scenario takes on new meaning as it explores the character and life of “The Empty Man”. The music video premiered on Spill Magazine earlier this week and follows the recent release of band’s fifth EP Bicycle Face.

The album, which came out on September 8, goes toe to toe with the best that Margo Price and Neko Case have to offer and we’d love if you’d consider it for your end of year “best of” lists, and/or “amazing albums you may have missed” lists.” There’s a wealth of feature opportunities here as well in terms of furthering the necessary, ongoing conversation about powerful women in the music industry who have powerful stories to tell.
