SKOPE NEWS FOR NOVEMBER 11, 2016

The xx “On Hold”

The xx today announce details of their highly anticipated third album. Titled I See You, the ten song album will be released on January 13, 2017 via Young Turks. I See You is the follow up to The xx’s two previous albums—xx and Coexist—which have sold over 3 million copies between them, winning a host of accolades along the way.

I See You marks a new era for the London trio of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith, both sonically and in terms of process. For while xx and Coexist were both made in relative isolation in London, I See You was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Marfa TX, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London, and is characterized by a more outward-looking, open and expansive approach. Produced by Jamie Smith and Rodaidh McDonald, I See You is The xx at their boldest yet, performing with more clarity and ambition than ever before.

Cartaé ‘All I Have’

Philadelphia Power Trio The WORKHORSE III to Release ‘Closer to Relevance’ December 9

Philadelphia power trio The WORKHORSE III will self-release their third album Closer to Relevance on December 9. Too Rock for Metal and too Metal for Rock? More like Loud, Proud, and Hot as Hell – http://workhorse3.bandcamp.com/track/soul-crusher.

Though The WORKHORSE III consider themselves a hard rock band, the riff-driven diversity of the music makes them so much more! The one certainty is that vocalist/guitarist Lisa Lyne Flynn (aka Lisa Christ Superstar), bassist/vocalist Steve McCarthy, and drummer Eric Perfect (also a world renowned tattoo artist of 26 years) worship at the altar of the mighty riff! The members have played in various well-known Philly bands such as SAVAGE 3D, LIMECELL, and the PAGAN BABIES and certainly have a Punk Rock/Metal pedigree, but when you put these three veteran musicians together you get a diverse pool of music in which to swim.

Montreal psych/experimental band Chocolat share full stream of new album

It’s been waiting to happen. Beyond the mystical pyramids and the mountains of Mars, Looloo’s silhouette emerges. A demigod born out of intergalactic dust, this exalted creature moves to the music of an epiphany laden with pretzels and Cherry Coke bottles. Its electric guitar-shaped head chants the arrival of a new Golden Age of distortion, an inescapable voyage to the end of the world to reconnect with the beings who brought us intelligence and hard rock. If you could only see it, you would understand…

Then one day, a band falls under its spell. Suddenly entranced by Looloo’s incomprehensible Sanskrit babble, the musicians are awakened to a desire for transcendence and communion of the spirits. As if each one of us were a small speck in the constellation created by Looloo’s vintage leatherette one-piece suit. Surely this ecstasy and elation will be short-lived.

There, they run a diner as well as an apartment building, which is home to a poor but friendly group of people. One day, Frank and Faye learn that a property developer wants them to sell the apartment. When they refuse, their diner is vandalized. However, Frank, Faye and their tenants are aided by mysterious flying saucers, which help them repair the diner and fight back.”

The Regrettes debut feminist anthem “Seashore” on CoS

Perfectly imperfect – that’s one way to describe LA based punk act, The Regrettes. Writing songs that proudly bear a brazen and unabashed attitude in the vein of acts Courtney Barnett or Karen O – with a pop aesthetic reminiscent of 50’s and 60’s acts a la the Temptations or Buddy Holly – the LA based four piece create infectious, punk driven tracks.

Los Campesinos! Single “I Broke Up In Amarante”

We, the band Los Campesinos!, today announce our new album Sick Scenes, to be released worldwide via Wichita Recordings on February 24th, 2017. It is our great pleasure that to celebrate the release of our 6th album we will also be undertaking a three week tour of North America, including our first West Coast shows in over five years.

We recorded the album, co-produced by long-time collaborator John Goodmanson and band member Tom Bromley, during Euro 2016 in Fridao, Portugal. The album exists as a release of pent-up aggression, a document of both personal and societal malaise. But it’s also a celebration of just getting to be a band again, of getting to play music with our friends. Thematically the record is concerned with fumbling for personal relevance while trying to be a better person. Repressing anxiety and attempting to function while constantly maintaining the perfect two-beer buzz. It is set upon a backdrop of non-league football, prescribed medication, and crumbling hometowns. These truly are the Sickest Scenes.

The Wild Honey Pie states that his forthcoming EP, due out early next year, “promises to announce a new voice in alt-country/americana worth watching.”
