Used Cassettes’ tunes are served straight up like the Stones’, though maybe a bit sandier, and waterlogged by an unlikely drift of far-flung currents. The group may have met not far from Gangnam, but they hail from South Africa, Canada, and Detroit.

Robby Johnson’s journey from a small-town to the brink of stardom in Nashville is unique to say the least. It was made easier by his early love for American pop culture, which was only strengthened when he got a job at his local McDonald’s restaurant in Canada.

The restaurant chain has now reciprocated Johnson’s loyalty by hiring him again – this time as the star of a new ad campaign.

In a beautifully crafted commercial, Johnson goes back to his boyhood home, elementary and high schools and the McDonald’s where he worked to make ends meet.

CERISE NEW SINGLE “ST NICK”

LA by way of Chicago songstress Cerise is set to release her debut album ‘Smoke Screen Dreams,’ on June 24. This week she shares album standout “St. Nick.” Stream it over at Consequence of Sound and on SoundCloud.

Although music has been integral to Cerise’s life since as far back as she can remember, it was her teenage days spent listening to such dark and romantic luminaries as The Cure, Bauhaus and Siouxsie And The Banshees that had the most dramatic effect. “That was the first time music really spoke to me,” she remembers. “The darkness and beauty of those bands seduced me into this other world and having a big interest in music. But it always seemed like it was the hardest thing in the world to actually do. To me, being a musician in a band seemed like being a ballerina- like you had to be trained for it from the age of six to become this amazing artist.”

Brooklyn based singer-songwriter Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson shares a brand new track entitled “Seed (Everybody’s Been Berned B4 Mix)” via SPIN who describes the track as ”a tambourine-soaked groover that weaves piano, fuzz bass, and Willy Wonka samples into a sun-baked shuffle evocative of early-’90s UK indie-dance…The jaded sentiment of the lyrics and samples (“You get nothing! You lose!”) prevents the song from ever getting too dippy in its music nostalgia.
