ARCANA 13 DOES COVER SONG
“Italian horror equals Dario Argento equals Suspiria,” elaborates the band, “That’s it, the rest is history; nothing more to add. When we started our journey into Italian horror, the very first melody we jammed on was the immortal theme of this unparalleled movie. In front of this colorful, psychedelic masterpiece we couldn’t just cover the quintessential Goblin’s piece of art, we needed to tribute and transform it into our sound. To top it off, we laid down the wall of synths with the invaluable help of ARCANA 13’s fifth hidden member, our brother Steve. When he’s not busy with his fierce deathpunk gang Hierophant, he becomes the wizard of our eerie and purely analogue synths and keyboards! Questo respiro, non puoi più dimenticarlo…!”

CHILD BITE “BORN A HOG”
In advance of its release today Decibel Magazine spews forth “Born A Hog” for communal absorption. “‘Born A Hog” is about how much it would suck to be born a hog,” considers vocalist Shawn Knight. “I eat my fair share of bacon, but I can’t help keeping in mind where it comes from. Interesting how we choose certain animals to eat and others to pamper. I’ve got two pet dogs, but I also eat bacon. Kinda fucked up when you think about it. Thinking too much about anything can ruin the experience, but I believe that the least I can do for that pig is to make myself feel a little guilty while I’m eating him. We were stoked to get a real pig on the track too; you can hear sweet Lucy squealing at the very end of the song.”

RICHARD LOMAX “WMD”
Woe betide any music critic that tries to keep up with Lomax, his sonic dreams and spasms of surrealist eccentricity: in 2014 he wrote a new song a week, released every seven days. It’s this addicting ingenuity-filled, exploration of human values that makes Richard Lomax’s work so triumphant. Magnificent choruses gather themselves around impeccable vocals, curious choices of instrumentation, and invigorative rhythm. Lyrically, thrilling storytelling meanders between narrative monologue, delivered with deftly-precise, moreish intonation.
A hyper-observant author, Lomax’s ‘Weapons Of Mass Destruction’ pens the struggle of heart vs. head in a swirling display at the confluence of mildly rocking baroque pop and blazing riffs.
MUSIC & COCAINE & REDEMPTION
When it comes to wake-up calls, few speak louder than regaining consciousness in a hospital and finding yourself under arrest.
That’s what happened to Topher Hall in December 2010. Hooked on cocaine and booze, the aspiring singer-songwriter had arranged to meet his dealer in a Cheesecake Factory in Leesburg, Va. In Faithless, vocalist Constance croons “You’ve won me over with lies before, faithless but I come back for more”; a helpless sentiment in drastic contrast to the effortless ambient wash of velvety vocals and dynamic synth loops.
