SKOPE NEWS FOR DECEMBER 8, 2015

JOHN REILLY NEW SINGLE

Long Island rapper John Reilly continues to strike out on his own with his slick-talking new single, “Do That Sh*t,” which is aimed squarely at the heads of all the wack emcees out there cluttering the airwaves.

When he rhymes, “Grab the microphone and do that sh*t/ We’re tired of hearin’ rappers who can’t spit/ They gettin’ booed at quick!” on the hook, it’s hard not to imagine the hurt feelings of any rapper within listening distance. And anyone who takes it to heart will no doubt recognize that Reilly’s been doing this for a minute, as he was previously a member of celebrated underground outfit The Day Laborers.

TWIN LIMB NEW VIDEO

The BreakerBox Productions-directed music video begins and continues as a warehouse performance video, much like many other. However, any viewer who stays with the piece will be treated to an explosion of animation and colors that perfectly shadow the music of Twin Limb; a warm foundation that builds into waves of climaxes that rocket upwards and fill the room. Treat yourself to a contemplative music video that pays off heavily rather than needles you with micro-flairs throughout.

WE ARE TEMPORARY NEW VIDEO

Following 2013’s “otherworldly and downright gritty” Afterthoughts EP (Under the Radar), Brooklyn electronic artist We Are Temporary is back with a video for his debut single that explores his own experience of dying. The beautifully dark and foreboding video—a masterful re-imagining of French short film Dans Mon Cocon—is a fitting first song from a debut album that explores the crossing from life to un-life.

“ROUGH”

Bassjackers return to Tiësto’s label Musical Freedom for the second time with their collaboration with Reez, a heavy-hitting house track “Rough.” The track begins with a massive build-up playing off a vocal sample, which drops into a thundering, bass-heavy breakdown contrasted with high pitched synths. The track is slated for official release on December 7th.

NEW BAAUER VIDEO

Check out the visual for Baauer’s “GoGo!” directed by Thomas Rhazi. The video follows a young lovers’ tumultuous relationship as it unfurls within the confines of a boy racer’s tuned-up car, hurtling through the clouds and plummeting to earth. It’s a candid, unadulterated look at a couple’s ‘firsts’ – the lust, the kiss, the sex, the fight, the breakup and the makeup.

P’ARIS “FOCUS”

‘Focus’ is a song about two people experiencing the loss of a pregnancy. There’s a very particular type of gentle empathy that both partners must offer each other when going through a miscarriage. It’s a strange type of loss, especially from a pragmatic standpoint – you haven’t so much lost something as you have lost the idea of something. So in a way you’re mourning the loss of control over your own future, control over your body, your biology. And you’re also faced with the fact that you have failed at the one thing humans exist on earth to do. ‘Focus’ is about making sure the relationship doesn’t suffer while you’re each processing things in your own way.
