BORN JOY DEAD HANG TEN IN THEIR VIDEO FOR ‘CHAINS ON YOU’
If you love someone, set them free. It’s an age-old wisdom that is parroted to us by our seniors from day one, but that doesn’t make it easy advice to take. Whether the object of your affection is a person, a place, or in Born Joy Dead’s case, a remote control surfer babe named Sigourney Waver, letting go is hard to do.
In the gnarly-as video for their latest single ‘Chains On You’, produced and directed by two fifths of Brisbane beach-pop outfit The John Steel Singers (Luke McDonald & Scott Bromiley), the BJD boys admire Waver’s sick moves as she shreds her way through the standstill waters of her prisons. But a bathtub, or even a pool, is much too small to ever cage the heart of a surfer.

TAYLOR PAYNE NEW SINGLE
“Outsider” is fascination. It’s an unrelenting thirst for action, or a chronic desire to be awakened. The claustrophobia in a wide space crawling with people who want you to be neither this nor that. It’s the magic one will always find in the strange and the uncommon.
Taylor Payne, currently based on the Sunshine Coast has been focussing seriously on pursuing music as a career for a few years now. Having just released the first single with The A&R Department “Outsider”, the song takes an alluring and enigmatic persona through persuasive lyrics. Whilst it maintains its upbeat playfulness, it reveals dark undertones which depicts an image of mischief, madness and fun. Taking inspiration from the likes of The Cure, and Florence and the Machine.

FAT WHITE FAMILY NEW SINGLE
‘Whitest Boy On The Beach’ (the first song and UK single taken from the forthcomng album, ‘Songs For Our Mothers’) mixes together the aesthetic of Throbbing Gristle (Lias, Saul and organist Nathan took a trip up to Beachy Head in England to recreate the cover for 20 Jazz Funk Greats for the single cover and to shoot the video with the full band), with a sound that owes as much to Sparks as it does to Donna Summer as it does to Naffi Sandwich (while still finding space to throw in a reference to TS Eliot’s ‘The Hollow Men’). The video was directed by acclaimed British artist Tim Noble.
