Bristolian DJ and producer Will Clarke has been causing a stir with his upfront house productions influenced by the bass forward sound of his hometown. With previous releases on the likes of Dirtybird and Turbo, here he debuts on Defected with ‘Spandex’ which features the vocals of Rhea.
‘Spandex’ doesn’t take itself too seriously, and in this irreverence lies its strength: its melodic bassline; decisive 808 claps and Rhea’s spoken-vocal-chant combine to make it one of the year’s catchiest records. Eschew formula and convention, ’Spandex’ has an unprecedented sound and idiosyncratic rhythm that is bound to turn heads, increase stamina on dancefloors, and propel itself to the forefront of the house music scene in 2015.
