SAM MOORE GETS HONORED

In honor of a career spanning more than 60 years, rock-and-soul great Sam Moore will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. The voice behind such hits as “I Thank You” and “Hold On I’m Coming” joins singer/songwriter Gregg Allman, composer John Barbe and his wife, Jane, producer John Huie, and numerous others to be inducted in a ceremony Sept. 26 in Atlanta.

Moore catapulted to international fame as the lead voice of the 1960s duo “Sam and Dave,” a musical collaboration with long-time partner and fellow Georgia native Dave Prater. As Sam and Dave, the duo recorded and performed together for 20 years and produced a string of hit albums. But it was a tune written, arranged, and produced by Isaac Hayes that cemented Moore’s place in music history. In 1967, Moore and Hayes wrote “Soul Man,” which Sam and Dave would record later that year. The song became responsible for a resurgence in Moore’s popularity, when Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi assumed the characters of Elwood and Jake Blues, hopped into the Bluesmobile, and took up a career singing the blues as the Blues Brothers. The song the brothers chose as their signature: “Soul Man.”

MATT NATHANSON NEW ALBUM TO BE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 2ND + SINGLE

Matt Nathanson’s new album Show Me Your Fangs – his tenth studio recording – delves deeper and further into the complexities and observations of everyday life than any of his previous albums. Songs such as “Giants,” “Bill Murray,” “Adrenaline,” “Washington State Fight Song,” and the title track tell vivid stories touching on the overall theme of self-identity and how we choose to reveal ourselves. These vignettes are all offered wrapped in richer, musical textures with Nathanson’s signature seductive hooks. In as much as these songs have a solemn message, leave it to Nathanson to offer the perfect counter balance with the album’s new single “Gold In The Summertime” with its sultry ‘70s soul groove.

CAROL DUBOC ALBUM # 7

On Carol Duboc’s deeply personal 2013 release, “Smile,” the contemporary jazz singer-songwriter opened up in a way that she had never done so before, revealing the pain and heartache involved with dissolving her marriage while being the mother of a young daughter. She described writing the album with producer and jazz keyboards legend Jeff Lorber as therapeutic. Her therapy continues on “Colored Glasses,” a Gold Note Music ten-track disc written and produced by Duboc and Lorber set for release on September 18 and launched that evening with a Hollywood concert date that will be streamed online.

Two years on, Duboc’s new material details her struggles with cutting the ties of the relationship, one tinged by her partner’s delusional view of the world. Writing lyrics and melodies to rhythm tracks sent to her by Lorber, Duboc addresses the realities and realizations of moving forward with honesty and candor, even if she felt her ex was hiding the truth behind “colored glasses,” thus spawning the album’s title. But she acknowledges her own role as well.

THOMAS JACK “RIVERS”

A new anthem for the summer has finally been unveiled, and it comes in the form of ‘Rivers’ – an original single from tropical house tastemaker and globetrotting DJ/producer and Thomas Jack. ‘Rivers’ builds upon the sound’s usual laidback style with an up-tempo summer cocktail of classical guitar flourishes, organic percussion, and infectious vocals from collaborators Jack McManus and Tim Woodcock. Today, ‘Rivers’ has been paired with a gorgeous music video that translates the meaning behind the track into its visual counterpart.

DF3 “CITY LIGHTS”

Brooklyn electronic pop trio DF3 has this super dancy track out for the summer, ‘City Lights.’ If you’re into Chromeo or Justice, this is on the same wavelength.

KINSKI SHARE NEW VIDEO FOR “I FELL LIKE A FUCKING FLOWER”

Directed by Carlos Lopez (Mudhoney, Intelligence, etc.), the video “captures a trippy and frantic feeling of perpetual motion” that perfectly complements the driving guitar riffs of the song, lending this instrumental track, taken from the band’s seventh album 7 (or 8), an unspoken narrative that feels perfectly at home. Kinski will be playing several festivals in their hometown of Seattle this summer.

THE ATOM AGE SHARES HOT SNAKES-INSPIRED NEW SINGLE “WASTEOID”

Oakland, CA-based six piece The Atom Age find their inspiration from the dust covered collections of unhinged 60’s Punk and R&B, whose crazed energy was once misconceived as a better fit for your trashcan than for your turntable. While taking many of their cues from these primitive pilgrims of punk, The Atom Age’s sound somehow sounds more raw and more urgent than ever alongside their contemporaries of today. Blending the swagger of Link Wray and Murder City Devils with the angular punk of Hot Snakes and Rocket From the Crypt, the new album Hot Shame was announced for an August 28th release on Asian Man Records.

“SAVE ME” SINGLE

On the heels of a 2015 that has already seen them make their Coachella, Tomorrowland, and EDC Las Vegas debuts, as well as the release of their new single “Save Me” with acclaimed UK vocalist Katy B, Keys N Krates are back to share that song’s music video. The Adam Beck and Paul Johnston-directed visual presents an absurdist take on romance and materialism that contrasts starkly with the romantic tropes presented in Montreal producer CFCF’s “Exercise #3 (Building)” video (also directed by Beck and Johnston). Under a motif of forbidden love, the video profiles the exaggerated inanimate relationship as it evolves from suppression to unabashed celebration.
