DANIEL MARCH “FUTURE SHOCK”
Daniel March’s second single this year, Future Shock, follows the release of Nina, a soothingly soulful number. Future Shock, however, is none of those things.
“The term, first brought to my attention by Curtis Mayfield, means “a state of distress or disorientation due to rapid social or technological change”, where people develop new lifestyles and belief systems to suit them. To seek power, to feel good, to be fearful and have it permissable, for whatever reason”, says March.

The documentary style music video for the title track, shot by Dustin Aksland takes you on tour with the guys across the country in their van for a wild ride, capturing everything from rare truck stop interactions and sweaty live shows to behind-the-scenes footage of rock & roll madness.

STEVIE B WOLF NEW SINGLE
At a young age, Wolf was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome, ADD, and depression. Rather than seeing his mental health as a weakness, Wolf overcomes this adversity to his musical advantage. “Tourette’s can manifest in many ways, like physical twitching or saying the same word over and over. A lot of my tics were tunes or phrases that popped into my head that I repeated compulsively. Maybe that has helped me develop a unique vocal and lyrical style.” He continues, “But it’s mostly that the presence of mental illness has always been a huge drive behind my music.” Wolf always felt like an outcast – like there was a barrier between other people and him; music was the way he could reach across that barrier and connect with people in a 100% real way. The Alone + Alive EP provides listeners with a sense of catharsis and musical connection as Stevie B Wolf confronts a more common challenge – that of lost love.
MOPHONO RELEASES “VL MONO”
Much like the rest of the artists who have released EPs with DJ Shadow’s Liquid Amber imprint, Benji Illgen, aka Mophono, formerly known as DJ Centipede, is a forward-thinking producer who makes beat-driven music that pushes genre boundaries and is at the cutting edge of the modern electronic scene. He frequently uses vintage analog gear to make new sounds, and his style is, as he puts it, “like driving a vintage European sportscar through a futuristic Tron soundscape.”

HOT FLASH HEAT WAVE “GUTTER GIRL” PREMIERES AT CLASH
Hot Flash Heat Wave met during high school while playing in respective bands at friend’s garage shows. Ted, Adam and Nathaniel played in chill-wave projects until coming together in San Francisco just over a year ago as Hot Flash Heat Wave. They create melodically upbeat, hook-filled garage rock, referencing a range of influences from Girls and the Beach Boys, to Santo & Johnny and Weezer. Their style is partially a tongue and cheek nod to the dreamy, lo-fi vibes of the “chill-wave” movement, as contrasted by the more sunny, sweltering sound of their own jams (“heat-wave”).

INTROVERTED DANCEFLOOR VIDEO FOR “HAPPINESS IS SUCH A MESS” PREMIERES AT SPIN
Introverted Dancefloor is Bevan Smith, a New Zealander who has released music under names like Signer and Aspen, and who has played in the Ruby Suns and Skallander throughout the last decade. His prior output has been spread over many international labels and has touched on sundry genres (like techno, IDM, folk, ambient) while featuring restraint and sophistication as compositional hallmarks. As Introverted Dancefloor, Smith has kept those features as guiding principles while allowing a more propulsive low end to dominate the construction of this music, winding up with understated but energetic dance tracks. Gestation, too, is a prominent attribute of this music, though not necessarily an obvious one. Smith started these songs with hundreds of layers, which he then pared down to a few core elements before rebuilding again.

EDDIE GOMEZ RELEASES RETRO BALLAD “YOU LIE SO WELL”
“You Lie So Well is the closest song to my heart on this project,” Gomez explained. “This is the first song I’ve ever had complete control of from beginning to end and top to bottom. I have so many people to thank that helped me bring my vision for this song to life. Not only did I fall in love with the words, but the process is something I will never forget. A special thanks goes out to composer/producer Tom Harriman for helping me grow through this experience, the knowledge and experience he brought is what really made the quality of this song stand out.”
ALEXI GLICKMAN (SANDY’S) SHARES FULL STREAM OF UPCOMING EP
After The Botticellis disbanded, San Francisco songwriter Alexi Glickman (Sandy) began opening shows as Sandy’s in 2012 while on the road with Little Wings. On his new EP, Prom, he wraps five little melodic gems with layers of vintage tape echo and open tuned Stratocaster shimmer for a dreamy late summer slow dance. Alexi recalls, “my first memories of music were in these big echoey rooms watching my Dad and his dance company rehearse. I wanted to make an EP that had a presence like that.” Prom features album art by Nat Russell that depicts a lone guitarist playing for a seemingly vast, empty landscape— save for the multitude of glowing stars in the cosmos. It’s a lonely image but also a transcendent one in the same spirit as the opening lines of Chris Bell’s I Am The Cosmos, “Every Night I tell myself I am the cosmos / I am the wind / But that don’t get you back again.”

MAXO KREAM “ISSUES”
Houston rapper Maxo Kream continues his hot streak with the ELEVATOR Mag-premiered video for “Issues,” a bonus cut from his Maxo 187 project, which Complex named One of the Best Albums of 2015. Featuring Fredo Santana, the Bryan Zawlocki-directed visuals follow the two rappers in a graffiti-splattered abandoned lot as they flex gritty rhymes while draped in black and blue apparel. With a raw, vintage visual effect, the video further accents the single’s dark, atmospheric vibes. “Maxo Kream and Fredo Santana have a few issues but one of them is definitely not money,” ELEVATOR explained in their premiere post. The video follows “Big Homies,” a loose single that the duo released last month.
