SKOPE NEWS FOR JUNE 30, 2015

NEW ALBUM BY ANDREA ZONN

Most fans of Americana and country know violinist and vocalist
Andrea Zonn from her 12-year run as a featured member of James Taylor’s band, and as a recording and touring musician with Lyle Lovett, Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, and Vince Gill. Now, fans can experience the full breadth of Andrea’s talents with her first album of originals (her sophomore album overall), the deeply personal Rise, out September 25th (Compass Records).

The songs on Rise represent a new chapter in Andrea’s story. Whereas her debut record featured her interpreting works by her favorite writers, many of them her friends, the new project shows off Andrea digging into songcraft with focus and newfound confidence. “I had always been a bit timid about writing because I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the greatest writers ever, anywhere,” she says.

Debuted by Stereogum, the Main Attrakionz’s 808s & Dark Grapes III is produced in-full by Friendzone and is released via Neil Young’s Vapor Records. “The cloud rap pioneers tackle all of life’s gambles,” said FACT Mag earlier this month in their premiere of “Shoot the Dice.” Previously, The FADER announced the project in May when they debuted the Kreayshawn-directed “Ain’t No Other Way” video. “If you listen to 808s III you’re definitely listening to Main Attrakionz, but if you compare these songs to our other songs, you’ll see the difference,” Squadda B told HotNewHipHop in an interview, while MondreM.A.N. added that “we kinda took it a little more serious as a group when we were recording it, trying new styles, trying new song structures, new shit. This is just the result of that, we’re just gonna keep on running with this new shit.”

Florence, AL-based quintet The Pollies is set to release its new album, Not Here, on September 25, 2015 via Single Lock Records/Thirty Tigers. The album shows the band shedding their alt-country skin in favor of experimental noise and unadulterated risk. Not a surprise from a band that is known for defying genres and leaping over boundaries.

“When you write a song, you have a million different things you can do with that song,” lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Jay Burgess says. “On our records, we always try to shake up the landscape. On this one, we incorporated a lot of elements that we normally wouldn’t think about using. It changed the atmosphere of the music and pushed it in a different direction.”

NO DEVOTION ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM TRAILER

When No Devotion’s first single literally dropped out of nowhere exactly one year ago – with a world premiere on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show that saw Daniel P. Carter playing the track twice in a row – it’s safe to say that most of the world was caught off guard. Geoff Rickly, the Brooklyn-based former Thursday frontman, had been keeping busy in the public eye with his politically satirical punk outfit United Nations without any indication that he’d been working on anything else – much less a new band with the former musical base of Lostprophets, one of the UK’s most successful rock bands of the decade. There was even less indication of a life after Lostprophets: For Stuart Richardson, Richard Jamie Oliver, Mike Lewis, Lee Gaze, and Luke Johnson, stepping out of the public life altogether was a personal necessity. But the arrival of “Stay” proved that this collaboration was as vital as it was embraced, immediately making its way onto the UK Official Charts and setting a stage for the band to round out the year with a second single, two UK tours (including one supporting Rickly’s old friend Gerard Way), a rapturous New York City debut, and the certain promise of a full-length album. That part, it seems, took a little more time than they imagined.

SANTIPARRO NEW VIDEO

In the video (directed by Ben Dickinson), Oldham visits Santiparro’s wintry cabin for an intimate healing ceremony. In Santiparro’s words, “The idea was to capture and document some real healing and harmonization – which is a reflection of the message of this song. The benefit of confrontation is healing and the benefit of healing is consciousness. It was great to get to know Will a little better and to introduce some new things. Mutual blessings were had on all sides. I think that this video couldn’t come out at a better time. Humanity needs to look in the mirror, to confront the truth of what is, and to clean what needs cleaning to move toward harmony – learning, little by little to trust in the way of peace.”

Some will notice the likeness of Bowie, and bands like Television, New Order and Sonic Youth, in the band’s mix of post punk meets goth, which frontman and guitarist, Gavin Rhodes, has sculpted from the get-go, and remained true to over the years.”
