Cosplay thrived in 2014. There were new, fascinating designs in many conventions throughout the year. While many cosplayers stood out, only a handful can claim to be among the best of the year. These cosplayers were the very best in costuming, effects and makeup and rose above with cosplays of characters recognized around the world and which quickly spread online as well.

Apocalypse from San Diego Comic-Con
While there were hundreds of mutants in costume at SDCC in 2014, only one of the mutants stole the show. Apocalypse, an infamous villain from X-Men, practically conquered the convention. With the help of a highly skilled team, Mick Ingis brought the titanic character to life.

Groot captivated audiences in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. During Dragon Con, a walking Groot appeared on the floors of the convention. To the delight of fans, the costume was true to the depiction of Groot from the film. Lee Hurley was responsible for the suit’s creation, and was also the man in the Groot costume during the convention.
