Cosplay thrived in 2014. There were new, fascinating designs in many conventions throughout the year. While many cosplayers stood out, only a handful can claim to be among the best of the year. These cosplayers were the very best in costuming, effects and makeup and rose above with cosplays of characters recognized around the world and which quickly spread online as well.
Apocalypse from San Diego Comic-Con
While there were hundreds of mutants in costume at SDCC in 2014, only one of the mutants stole the show. Apocalypse, an infamous villain from X-Men, practically conquered the convention. With the help of a highly skilled team, Mick Ingis brought the titanic character to life.
Groot from Dragon Con
Groot captivated audiences in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. During Dragon Con, a walking Groot appeared on the floors of the convention. To the delight of fans, the costume was true to the depiction of Groot from the film. Lee Hurley was responsible for the suit’s creation, and was also the man in the Groot costume during the convention.
Lutece Twins from Anime Expo
There were many amazing cosplays from the anime convention known as Momocon, but Aicosu’s Lutece Twins definitely stole the show. Sporting a rigged coin-toss game featured in Bioshock Infinite, the Aicosu team walked the floors and encouraged members of the convention to play the game.
Nova from New York Comic Con
Not many heroes from cancelled games get their share of the spotlight, but Nova, from StarCraft: Ghost was walking the floors of New York Comic Con thanks to a dedicated fan and cosplayer. Zadra built the costume and brought the character to life.

Wonder Woman from New York Comic Con
In anticipation of a new Wonder Woman coming to the big screen, there were numerous Wonder Woman cosplayers at New York Comic Con. However, Joanna Mari’s costume definitely stole the show. The costume was beautifully constructed, and with the help of makeup she looked a little battle-worn. If nothing else, her fearless poses won the hearts of dozens of fans.
