TOM PAXTON HEADS DOWN ‘REDEMPTION ROAD’
Like countless young adults who fell in love with Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton headed to Greenwich Village in the early ’60s, just in time to join Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, Joan Baez and other troubadours who took over coffeehouse stages — and took on the world. Paxton has been raising his rich voice in song ever since, carrying on the folk tradition with passion, wit and grace.
And the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner is far from ready to call it quits, though he is planning to leave the traveling life behind. But first, he’ll celebrate the March 10, 2015 release of his 62nd (or so) album, Redemption Road; launch a two-month tour with Janis Ian on March 4; and head to his hometown of Bristow, Okla., for his March 14 induction into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. He’ll also run across the pond in May for several U.K. dates, and likely keep stage-hopping through 2015. And after that … well, after that, maybe he’ll finally get around to turning his “Back in the Day” website recollections into a book, or posting more “Short Shelf-life Songs,” or giving himself more opportunities to kick back with a midday movie, as he was doing one recent rainy afternoon before hitting “pause” to discuss his latest work.

NIC HESSLER LEAD SINGLE
Now ditching the moniker of a hypothetical band, Nic re-emerges in 2015, healthy and reinvigorated, with a more fully-formed and ambitious sound: the sound of Soft Connections, his debut LP years in the making. The album bridges the songwriting influences of the vintage American power-pop of Emmitt Rhodes and Alex Chilton with UK giants like The Kinks and XTC. Tracks like “Hearts, Repeating” and “I Feel Again”—two classic singles in the radio sense of the word—show the maturity in craftsmanship Nic’s been honing these past four years.
Lead single, “Hearts, Repeating”, premiered via Stereogum, who note its “brisk pulse carries the song forward with a rush similar to riding a bicycle down a hill with your hands raised to the heavens” and serves as the perfect introduction to Hessler’s robust and vibrant power-pop sensibilities.

HUMMING HOUSE TO RELEASE ‘REVELRIES’ ON MARCH 24th
Nashville quintet Humming House is set to release a new album, Revelries, on March 24, 2015, via Nashville label Rock Ridge Music (with distribution via ADA). With interwoven threads of folk, soul, bluegrass and more, Humming House’s acoustic instrumentation – presenting mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and bass in fresh roles – flips between rousing energy and nuanced presentation, topped off by stunning vocal harmonies. American Songwriter called their music “infectious and grin-inducing.” Roughstock dubbed Humming House “darned close to perfect.” Huffington Post just named the band one of the “peak musical performers of 2014.”
Says band founder Justin Wade Tam: “We’re thrilled to release a new set of musical narratives into the world. Revelries embodies our adventures on the road, our evolution as a band, our love of storytelling, and our insatiable desire to have a good time on stage and off.”
One of the best ways to judge a new artist is how well they communicate their story. Luckily Ikey, a rapper/singer born in Harlem, raised in Nigeria, and residing in Maryland, has the ability to make his rags-to-riches story seem simultaneously relatable, while still being his own. In the video for “Olodo” which premieres via Complex, Ikey sings about “going on this journey.” Shot in the Great Falls in Virginia amid the changing colors of the leaves, Complex states that “the stunning, cinematic video is a pretty inspirational feat for the up-and-coming artist.”
