With the grandeur of Sarah Vaughan, the soul of Sade and just enough of a present-day twist to settle her somewhere between “Jessie Ware elegance and Sky Ferreira cool” (Buzzfeed), Niia has steadily been ramping up for the launch of her debut “Generation Blue” EP, out today on Something Local Records. The classically-trained, 26 year-old “modern noir / future jazz” chanteuse and pianist got her start at the age of 19 upon a chance meeting with Wyclef Jean. While her vocals on his hit “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)” featuring Niia, Akon and Lil Wayne launched Niia and took her around the world, it’s her current work with producer Robin Hannibal (Rhye / Quadron / Little Dragon / Kendrick Lamar) that has cemented her as one of the breakout acts to watch for in 2015.
