Moritat has been together since forming in Chicago in 2008, and High Plus Tight is their follow-up to their 2012 debut album, Clill Blanzin. The EP has a pretty crazy back story too… most of the songs were written between 2008-2009, but the home they all shared was burglarized when they were nearing completion. All their gear, laptops, instruments and demos were stolen, completely halting production on the new material.
Fast-forward to 2013, when they discovered a CD-R of demos under the carpet in a corner of their studio, marked in bright neon paint marker: HIGH PLUS TIGHT. Remarkably, it was all the demos they’d worked on years prior, thought to be lost. The band immediately got back to work, and the result is the High Plus Tight EP, which is finally getting a proper release. The EP is anchored by avant-pop tendencies, angular rhythms, and striking post-rock textures.
