Band members Raycee (vocals), Ulises (bass), and Cam (synths, backing vocals) attended Hofstra University where they were handpicked by their professor Bob Bowen III to form a jazz combo for course credit, which led to them forming a cover band with the addition of their drummer Jack. They all shared a vision of creating an original, energetic band that would equal or outdistance the pop rock classics which led to them bringing long-time friend and songwriter Mills on board. The killer combo was almost complete but was missing was an extraordinary guitarist to match the quirkiness of the band and attribute the right sound. In 2010, their mentor Bob Bowen passed away. As the group attended a student memorial, The Dirty Gems discovered their guitarist Gary. They instantly fell in love with his soulful sound and asked him to come on board the band. After their first rehearsal their connection was instantaneous and they haven’t looked back since.
