Name just about any trippy rock musician you admire today – David Byrne, Beck, Wayne Coyne – and there’s a good chance he/she is a fan of Os Mutantes.
The psychedelic rock band formed in 1966 in Sao Paulo and released several killer albums in the late ’60s/early ’70s. (The group’s mind-blowing self-titled debut is a must-have.)
After taking a 30-year hiatus, Os Mutantes re-formed in the 21st century and released another record of new material in 2009, Haih Or Amortecedor. Later this month, they return with another album, Fool Metal Jack.
