The Grateful Dead puts a new spin on its classic “Playing In The Band” this winter as the group gives fans a chance to show off their musical chops with THE DEAD COVERS PROJECT. Starting Tuesday, January 10, http://Dead.net is calling on fans to upload videos of them covering the Dead to youtube.com. Each video should be tagged “DeadCoversProject” to ensure it ends up on the Dead’s YouTube channel.
All video submissions must contain a song either written by or recorded by the Grateful Dead. How that song is interpreted, however, is entirely up to those covering it. In other words, if you think the world is ready for your speed metal version of “Sugaree” or hip-hop interpretation of “Ripple,” this is your chance to shine. All of the submitted videos will be available for viewing on the band’s official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/gratefuldead.
