Over the years we’ve seen music slowly erode itself into popish nothingness. Artist after artist presenting themselves as superstars in the making with nothing more than a pretty face, pushed in front of a microphone by the corporate giants in the hopes of making a quick superficial buck off of fans who don’t realize how bad the music really is. All in all — it’s over commercialized Ramon Noodles & as solid as a house of cards built on a weak musical foundation – & yes like reality TV it sadly generates revenue. Like other forms of entertainment music has shifted its emphasis to other tangibles out of necessity. What ever happened to good old world class songwriting?
So across my desk slides the latest CD by Jeff Cochell entitled “Between the Lines” Dig a little deeper I soon discovered that this singer/songwriter/musician not only plays an impressive classical style guitar but he knows how to write a good piece of music as well. “Between the Lines” presents 10 amazing tracks that clearly prove Cochell has substance, solid musicianship & rock solid songwriting. Music reminds me of heartfelt Jim Croce, cat Stevens, & even Gordon Lightfoot. Fans who like these artists will tumble over this release.
Al in all it’s an earthy sounding musical production from start to finish served up fresh with great playing, solid writing, & yes & strong musical foundation.
