MTV RADIO’S MORNING FACTS FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st, 2010

LADY GAGA AND KATY PERRY LEAD MTV EMA NODS

Lady Gaga and Katy Perry each scored five nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards.   The ladies will go head-to-head in four categories: Best Pop Act, Best Song, Best Female Act and Best Video. Gaga is also up for Best Live Act, while Perry, who hosted the show last year, is up Best World Stage performance for her fifth nomination. Eminem follows right behind the ladies with four nominations: Best Song, Best Male Act, Best Hip Hop and Best Video for his Rihanna collaboration “Love the Way You Lie.”   Justin Bieber, who won the Best New Artist Moon Man at the VMAs last week, will compete against Ke$ha, B.o.B., Jason Derulo and Plan B for Best New Act.     Katy Perry and Linkin Park will perform at the show, which takes place on November 7th in Madrid, Spain.  

GAGA ATTENDS DON’T ASK DON’T TELL RALLY

According to Billboard, yesterday, Lady Gaga attended a rally in Maine against the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.   She joined a Servicemembers Legal Defense Network event near the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus. Gaga stood alongside veterans discharged because of the policy, which forbids military recruiters from asking about people’s sexual orientations and prohibits service members from revealing if they’re gay.   Gaga recently called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to repeal the policy during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

GAGA TALKS ABOUT HER MEAT-DRESS

Lady Gaga’s meat-dress has been discussed plenty, ever since she wore it to the MTV Video Music Awards, angering many people including Ellen DeGeneres and PETA.   And at a recent concert in Philadelphia, the pop star decided to speak about the issue, although in a joking manner.   Gaga said that next time she’ll “wear a tofu dress,” but that means that the “soybean police will come after” her.

BRUNO ARRESTED FOR COCAINE

According to TMZ, Peter “Bruno Mars” Hernandez was recently arrested for allegedly possessing of 2.6 grams of cocaine. Security guards reportedly followed the “Just the Way You Are” singer into the bathroom of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on Sunday and found narcotics on his persons. The timing of his arrest could conflict with upcoming spot appearances to further promote the release of his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, on October 5th.

B.o.B TO PERFORM FOR BARACK OBAMA

B.o.B. will perform at the upcoming National Gen44 Summit Kick Off Concert with President Barack Obama on September 30th at Washington, D.C.’s historic DAR Constitution Hall.   The event celebrates the inaugural Gen44 Summit, a three day gathering created by the Democratic National Committee to cultivate and empower a rising generation of leaders.   For full details and ticket information, visit GenFortyTour.com.

FAR EAST MOVEMENT SCORE BIG HIT

Far East Movement have scored a hit with “Like A G6,” featuring The Cataracs and Dev.   The song is currently number 11 on iTunes and number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making FM the first Asian American group to land on the mainstream pop music charts.   The video for the tune has been viewed on YouTube over seven-million times and the song has been streamed on the band’s MySpace page over 4.5-million times.   FM are out on the road with Mike Posner and they play Dallas, Texas tonight.   “Like A G6” is featured on the group’s forthcoming album, Free Wired, which features Ryan Tedder, Snoop Dogg, Keri Hilson, Lil Jon and production from the Stereotypes, Smeezingtons and others.   Free Wired will be released on October 12th.      

JAY-Z TO PERFORM WITH COLDPLAY

We’ve just learned Jay-Z will join Coldplay’s Chris Martin for an exclusive invite-only party on New Year’s Eve. The artists, who happen to be close friends, will take stage at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. According to Rap-Up.com, Hova’s wife, Beyonce, is rumored to headline her own concert in Vegas for the start of the new year as well. We’ll keep you posted with further updates.

MARIAH’S HOLIDAY ALBUM COMING IN NOVEMBER

According to her official fansite, Mariah Carey has nearly completed her forthcoming holiday album, Merry Christmas II You. Mi Mi’s disc will include classic songs like “The First Noel,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” as well as four original songs she wrote. Fans will be able to purchase this great stocking stuffer, which also boasts contributions from American Idol’s Randy Jackson and Jermaine Dupri, on November 2nd.

SARA B AND ADAM LEVINE GO DOWN MEMORY LANE

Sara Bareilles and Adam Levine were teasing each other on Twitter over the weekend.   It all stems back to a talent show called Spring Sing that took place years ago at UCLA, where Sara beat Maroon 5, then known as Kara’s Flowers.   Sara told us a little bit about the now historic show (See Related Cut #2).   Adam wrote that the band is “not bitter at all about losing Spring Sing,” to which Sara replied that she’s sure they can drown their sorrows in their “ten-trillion fans.”

NO DOUBT TALK WORLD TOUR

No Doubt are still working on their forthcoming sixth studio album, but that hasn’t stopped them from thinking about a world tour. Tony Kanal told Billboard that they are definitely interested in launching a world tour after they complete the new disc. He went on to say that they’re having more fun than they ever have as a band writing the record. Check out NME.com for more.

GWEN STEFANI GETS WAXED

Gwen Stefani is the latest star to be immortalized by Madame Tussauds.   The No Doubt singer will be on hand to unveil her wax replica at noon on Wednesday at Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas in front of the Venetian Resort Hotel.   The wax sculpture cost over 300-thousand dollars to create.  

TAYLOR SWIFT ATTENDS BAND MEMBER’S WEDDING

Taylor Swift attended her band member Mike Meadow’s wedding this weekend.   Taylor’s entire band was invited and the group had their own table titled “The Agency” – the band’s nickname. Taylor posted pictures on her Twitter, which were snapped inside a photo-booth at the wedding, and her mother and a pal are by her side posing with funny faces. Taylor’s dancer Claire Callaway caught the bouquet, and her guitarist, Grant Mickelson, posted a picture of the two getting quite cozy at their table.

SELANA GOMEZ IS READY FOR TAYLOR SWIFT’S NEW ALBUM

Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated third album, Speak Now, will be released next month, and one person who can’t wait for its debut is Taylor’s best friend, Selana Gomez. The two recently got together to play each other’s albums, and all Selena could say is it’s amazing. She told MTV News, “People are going to be really surprised. It’s not different you just don’t believe she can top her last record. I told her, ‘There’s no way I thought you could take your style and make it bigger.” Selena already has her favorite Taylor tracks picked out — “Dear John” and the song which is number 13 on the album. Speak Now hits stores October 25th.

P!NK FIGHTS FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS

P!nk has always been vocal about her fight for animal rights, and the pop star participated in an event to help raise awareness over the weekend.   P!nk wrote on her Twitter account that she attended Puppy Mill Awareness Day in Los Angeles, and also that people need to “boycott pet stores.”   Read more about P!nk’s experience at Twitter.com/Pink.

MARK RONSON IS “DEAD” TO AMY WINEHOUSE

Amy Winehouse is not pleased with Mark Ronson.   The producer went on an English late-night show and said that he “created the tracks” for Winehouse’s classic 2006 album Back to Black.   The embattled singer responded to Ronson’s claims on Twitter, saying that he is now “dead” to her and that he’s trying to make a career out of an album that she wrote.   Learn more at EW.com.

KANYE & AMBER ROSE: ON TO THE NEXT ONE?

After a two year relationship, Amber Rose and Kanye West called it quits so the rapper could begin focusing on his new project. Since the break-up, West has been spotted in public with former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton and model Selita Ebanks, while his ex has been romantically linked to New Orleans Saints player Reggie Bush and Fabolous. BallerStatus.com reports it’s unknown if the former couple will ever get back together but they still talk and they remain good friends.

CELEB CHEF FEEDS MADONNA’S CREW

Madonna was filming her movie W.E. in Brooklyn over the weekend, and a celebrity chef found out about it and delivered some food to the Queen of Pop and her crew.   According to the New York Daily News, Vinny Accardi, a contestant on the upcoming season of FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen, had “penne alla vodka, rigatoni Bolognese and signature brick oven pizzas” dropped off on the movie set.   Although the crew enjoyed the meal, the paper reports that Madonna was “too engrossed in her work” to join everyone for dinner.

MICHAEL FRANTI’S ALBUM OUT TODAY, ON TV

Michael Franti’s new album, The Sound of Sunshine, is out today, and because of this, you’ll be seeing a lot of him on your TV set.   According to a press release, the “Say Hey (I Love You)” singer will be performing on both The Ellen DeGeneres Show and on George Lopez’s Lopez Tonight.   Check your local listings for when you can watch.

ADAM LAMBERT ACCUSED OF BATTERY

Adam Lambert could be in trouble.   According to the Associated Press, the former American Idol runner-up was accused of simple battery on a paparazzi in Miami Beach.   A police report was filed by 38-year-old Victor Eras, who said that he was taking a picture last week when Lambert started running at him in an “aggressive manner.” Eras didn’t suffer any injuries and no arrests were made.   The AP reports that the case will be reviewed and then it will be decided if any charges will be filed.

KINGS OF LEON SINGER ENGAGED!

Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill is engaged. The singer has asked his girlfriend of two years, Lily Aldrige, to marry him (sorry, ladies). You may recognize Lily, as she starred in K-O-L’s video for their smash single “Use Somebody.” Show your congratulations by picking of Kings of Leon’s new disc, Come Around Sundown, which hits stores October 19th. DONELL JONES ISSUES “STRIP CLUB”

ConcreteLoop.com reports Donell Jones has just released a new song called “Strip Club” featuring rapper Yung Joc. The cut is off of the R&B singer’s long-awaited fifth album, Lyrics. You can get your copy when it lands online and in stores on Tuesday, September 28th.

BOUNTY KILLER ARRESTED

Things are not looking good for Jamaican dancehall artist Bounty Killer. Billboard.com reports a badly bruised woman accused the star of assault, after she claims she was physically attacked this past weekend at the entertainer’s home in St. Andrew, Jamaica. In addition to the alleged incident, the reggae star is currently facing charges for possession of fire arms and marijuana. We’ll keep you posted with further updates.
