2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS NOMINEES

MTV has just announced the nominees for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and Lady Gaga leads the pack with a record breaking thirteen nods, including Best Pop Video, for her smash hit single “Bad Romance.” Eminem follows close behind with eight nominations, including Video of the Year, for “Not Afraid” while hip hop rookie, B.o.B managed to grab five nods for “Airplanes” featuring Hayley Williams and “Nothing On You” with Bruno Mars. In addition, newcomers Drake, Jusitn Bieber, Ke$ha and Florence + The Machine have also received nominations for the first time ever. You don’t want to miss this! LADY GAGA SCORES 13 VMA NODS!

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards nominations have been announced and Lady Gaga leads the pack scoring 13.   Gaga’s “Bad Romance” clip is up for Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video, Best Female Video and for the coveted Video of the Year.   Her “Telephone” visual featuring Beyonce is also up for Best Choreography, Best Collaboration and is up against “Bad Romance” for the Video of the Year.     Be sure to tune in to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards when they air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12th at 9 PM (Live Eastern/Tape delayed Pacific).

LADY GAGA’S MONSTER’S BALL TOUR RAKES IN $$$

According to Rolling Stone magazine, Lady Gaga’s year-long Monster Ball Tour is on pace to rake in between 150 to 200-million dollars.   Gaga will take her Monster Ball Tour to the big stage at Lollapalooza on Friday night.

JUSTIN BIEBER SCORES BEST NEW ARTIST VMA NOD

Justin Bieber is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.   The singer is nominated for his clip for “Baby,” featuring Ludacris.   Bieber is up against Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Jason Derulo and Broken Bells.   See who wins the Moon Man when the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12th at 9 PM.
 
MORE DETAILS ON 3D JUSTIN BIEBER FLICK

Yesterday, we reported that Justin Bieber will release a 3D concert film next year.   Now, new details about the project have surfaced. The film will be directed by Davis Guggenheim, the Oscar-winning director of The Inconvenient Truth and last year’s rock documentary It Might Get Loud.   Bieber will play himself in what is described as a “feature biopic,” with performances from his current tour popping up throughout the film. Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, and Island Def Jam chairman, L.A. Reid, will produce, and a release date is currently set for February 11th, 2011, which is Valentine’s Day weekend.  

BIEBER’S LOVE LETTER TO FANS

Justin Bieber sent a love letter to his fans in the form of a music video.   The singer posted a video to YouTube to his song “Love Me,” which features Bieber hanging with fans, rehearsing for concerts, performing on stage as well as clowning around backstage and hanging out with Usher.   Bieber is out on tour now and plays the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida tomorrow night.   <JC>

KATY PERRY ROLLING STONE COVER GIRL

Katy Perry graces the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The singer will release her new album, Teenage Dream, on August 24th.

KE$HA ROCKS CASIO EVENT

Ke$ha performed in New York City on Monday night at Casio’s Shock The World event.   The singer is Casio’s “brand ambassador” and helped the company launch two new watches with a performance featuring a set with her eight-piece band.   Ke$ha performed “Blah Blah Blah,” “Party at a Rich Dude’s House,” “Dinosaur,” “Stephen,” “Animal,” her new single “Take It Off,” and the current hit “Your Love Is My Drug.”   She ended the show with her breakthrough hit “Tik Tok.”

WILL.I.AM DOESN’T SUPPORT MJ ALBUM

According to the Associated Press, a new Michael Jackson album is expected by the end of the year, culled from unreleased material in his vaults. But Jackson collaborator and Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am is opposed to the idea.     He doesn’t think the album should ever come out.   He said Jackson was “a perfectionist and he wouldn’t have wanted it that way,” adding, “How you gonna release Michael Jackson when Michael Jackson ain’t here to bless it?”   Not much is known about what will be on the album, but Michael’s brother Jackie has said he and brother Marlon were working on the record with John McClain, Jackson’s former manager and executor of his estate.

TAYLOR SWIFT TO TRAVEL TO JAPAN

Taylor Swift will return to Japan this week to perform at the Summer Sonic Festival on Saturday and Sunday in Oksaka and Tokyo, Japan. This is Taylor’s second trip to Japan, as she made a stop in February on her Fearless tour. Before her first visit, she taught herself how to speak Japanese, which she mentioned during her recent webchat with fans. , “Mine,” the first single off of Taylor’s upcoming third album will hit radio August 16th.

EMINEM TOPS iTUNES CHARTS

Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” once again is the number one downloaded song on iTunes this week.   Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” also stays put at number two while Enrique Iglesias’ “I Like It” featuring Pitbull climbs one notch to number three, Katy Perry’s new “Teenage Dream” debuts at number four and her last single, “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg, falls one spot to number five.   Avenged Sevenfold’s Nightmare is the number one album, knocking Eminem’s Recovery to number two after five weeks at the top.   Rick Ross’ Teflon Don is at number three, followed by Drake’s Thank Me Later and Lady Gaga’s The Fame.  

ENRIQUE’S “I LIKE IT” HITS ONE-MILLION DOWNLOADS

Enrique Igleasias’ latest hit, “I Like It” featuring Pitbull, has just surpassed the one-million download mark on iTunes.   The song is currently at number three on the iTunes download chart and the video for the track is nominated for Best Dance Video at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.   The big show airs live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12th at 9 PM Eastern.

JONAS AND SPARKS LEAD REAGAN YOUTH GROUP

According to the Associated Press, 18-year-old Nick Jonas and 21-year-old American Idol champ Jordin Sparks are leading a committee of young do-gooders, who were inspired by our nation’s 40th President, Ronald Reagan.   Jonas and Sparks are leading a committee of 35 prominent young people called the National Youth Leadership Committee of the Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration.   It includes athletes, entertainers and student leaders who are all under the age of 25. They have been inspired in a personal way by Reagan’s vision of freedom and his leadership.  

JENNIFER LOPEZ TALKS LOVE?

Jennifer Lopez is featured on the cover of the September issue of Glamour magazine. The singer and actress explained why her she named her upcoming album Love?   J-Lo said, “For me, love is the never-ending question. It’s confusing. It’s the answer, but it’s also inundated with contradictions and complications. It’s about years of experience in different relationships, and kind of the culmination of that, and how even to this day, I’m still learning.”   Read more in Glamour magazine.   Lopez released “Louboutins,” her first single off the album, back in December.   No word on when Love? will come out.  

RYAN TEDDER IS A FATHER!

Ryan Tedder is a father!   According to E! Online, the OneRepublic frontman and wife Genevieve had a son yesterday morning in Denver, Colorado.   The baby wasn’t actually due until Sunday, but a source told E! News that “mom and baby are doing well and the couple is very happy.”

JOHN MAYER COVERS “CALIFORNIA GURLS”

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” is being called the song of the summer — it’s so popular that even John Mayer wanted to give his own spin on it.   At a radio show last month, the singer-songwriter sang his own version of the tune, saying that’s an even more interesting song when you “sing it as a man.”   See the video on YouTube now.

CHRIS BROWN PERFORMED STUNTS IN TAKERS

According to MTV News, Chris Brown loved doing his own stunts in the upcoming film Takers. The singer stars opposite Paul Walker and Idris Elba in the action flick and told MTV the most exciting part about making the movie was “getting to blow stuff up, shoot guns, you know what I’m saying. It’s all fun!” Brown refused to use a stunt double and liked the idea of “challenging” himself. Takers is based on a group of bank robbers trying to get a huge pay-day and also stars Matt Dillon, Zoe Saldana, Jay Hernandez, Michael Ealy, Hayden Christensen and T.I. The movie opens on August 27th.

Chris Brown’s acting credits include Stomp The Yard and This Christmas. He will also appear in an upcoming movie called Phenom which stars Vanessa Williams, Meagan Good and Sherri Shepherd.
Brown also told MTV, “I didn’t just wanna do movies that had consistent dancing and singing. I wanted to do stuff that pushes me as an actor at the end of the day.”

NINA SKY RETURN WITH NEW EP

Rap-Up.com reports Nina Sky have surfaced with a new EP called The Other Side. The eight track project includes contributions from famed producer Salaam Remi. It serves as the first effort since their 2004 self-titled debut album. It’s unknown when the “Move Ya Body” singers will release their oft-delayed sophomore effort, Starting Today, which was originally titled The Musical.

MORE ON NEW U2 SONG

U2’s European tour gets underway on Friday in Torino, Italy and it looks like the band will be playing new music during their set. A fan filmed video turned up online last night, taken from outside the arena where the guys are rehearsing. The song is described as a “straight ahead rocker” and so far lyrics than can be made out include “some things you can’t control” and “some things you have to let go.” U2 wrote new music while Bono recovered from emergency back surgery earlier this year, a surgery that forced the band to scrap their U-S summer trek.

KINGS OF LEON RUMORED RELEASE DATE

Will we hear the new Kings of Leon album before year’s end? NME reports that the record, the follow-up to 2008’s Only By The Night, is set to come out on October 19th, but reps for the band say the reported date is “a rumor.” We’ll be the first to let you know when in fact the band does decide to release their fifth studio album. Kings play Camden, New Jersey tomorrow night.

THE SCRIPT COVER ART

The Script have just revealed the new cover art for their forthcoming album, Science & Faith.   It features two hands, one light and one dark, wrapped around each other.   Check out the cover now at Twitter.com/TheScript.   The album is due out later this year in Europe, but there has still been no word on when we’ll get to hear it in the U-S.

DAUGHTRY ARE GOING TO SOUTH AFRICA

Daughtry are heading to South Africa.   Frontman Chris Daughtry wrote on his Twitter account that he’s “so excited” to be heading there.   The band will be playing two shows in late October, one in Cape Town and one in Johannesberg.

COULD LEONA BE DATING A MUSICIAN?

Could Leona Lewis soon have a musician boyfriend?   According to U-K paper Metro, the “Bleeding Love” singer was seen partying in London with Max George, the frontman for British band The Wanted.   A source told the paper that they hung out until three in the morning and then “he asked for her number.”   Leona recently split up with longtime boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa.

McCARTNEY ASKS TO HAVE HIS MUSIC ON GLEE

Paul McCartney is the latest musician who will have his music featured in an episode of Glee, but he might be the first who asked them to use his work.   Show creator Ryan Murphy told BBC News that Sir Paul sent him mixed tapes and a hand-written note asking him to consider using some songs for Glee.   Ryan explained, “I had heard that he is a fan of the show.   I was gobsmacked… so of course we are going to do something with him.”   Read more at BBC.co.uk/News.
