KATY PERRY WORKS ON HER NEW ALBUM

Katy Perry is hard at work on her sophomore album, the follow-up to her smash debut One of the Boys.   The pop star took to her Twitter account to give her fans an update, saying that she’s been recording for two weeks in her hometown of Santa Barbara, California, and that she’s “so excited.”   No word yet on when we can expect to hear something off the new record.

GAGA CAUSES SOME CONTROVERSY

Lady Gaga posed topless on the cover of British magazine Q, and apparently, it’s going to be pretty difficult to get your hands on a copy in the U-S.   PerezHilton.com reports that many stores, including Borders, will not stock the mag unless a little less of the pop star’s upper half is shown — on the original cover, Gaga is only covering her breasts with her arm.   As an alternative, many chains are also requesting that the magazine be sold with a protective black cover.   Learn more, and see the cover now, at PerezHilton.com.

GAGA GOES DIAMOND!

It doesn’t happen often anymore, but Lady Gaga’s hit debut effort The Fame has managed to get Diamond Certified.   The pop star wrote on her Twitter that her “little monsters” should rejoice, because the album has now sold over ten-million copies worldwide. <ZS>

MORE TROUBLE IN PCD LAND

There have been many reports of turmoil within the Pussycat Dolls, and another just surfaced late last week.   Member Kimberly Wyatt told New! magazine that she was never close with group frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger, and that she doesn’t consider her a friend, but more as someone she works with.   She also said that she doesn’t know if PCD will be getting back together.   Learn more at Entertainment.MSN.com.

SHAKIRA TEAMS WITH RAFAEL NADAL FOR NEW CLIP

Shakira has teamed up with Spanish Tennis star Rafael Nadal for her new video for “Gypsy” off her She Wolf album.     The video for “Gypsy” and “Gitana,” the Spanish version, were shot in Barcelona, Spain.   The sexy clip captures a flirtatious and playful onscreen chemistry between Shakira and Nadal, who plays the love interest. ITUNES SELLS ITS 10 BILLIONTH TUNE

Apple announced that its online music store crossed the 10 Billion downloads mark Wednesday when 71-year-old Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Georgia, bought “Guess Things Happen That Way” by Johnny Cash.   According to the Associated Press, iTunes celebrated the milestone by giving Sulcer a 10-thousand dollar iTunes gift card.   iTunes launched back in 2003 and became the top overall music retailer in the U.S. in 2008.

BIRDMAN: “DRAKE IS DESTINED FOR GREATNESS”

According to Rap-Up.com, the seemingly overnight success has not only surprised the world but many of his peers. Birdman told the site that he knew the Young Money artist has a “swagger” that “you can’t deny.” The “Money To Blow” emcee stated “the success of Drake, I saw it happen right in front of my face! I knew he was destined for greatness, but not this fast.” Birdman reveals Drizzy is still crafting his   debut album, Thank Me Later, which will drop later this year.

BEYONCE IS DONE WITH “SASHA FIERCE”

During an interview with Extra, Beyonce revealed that the direction of her future recordings will not include her infamous alter-ego, “Sasha Fierce.” The entertainer said “Sasha Fierce is done, I killed her, yes, she’s done.” Bey concludes “she will live in me” and promises there won’t be any new ego’s popping up anytime soon.

SHAKIRA, RICKY MARTIN AND MORE JOIN “SOMOS EL MUNDO”

Shakira, Ricky Martin, Daddy Yankee and more have joined the historic recording of “Somos El Mundo,” the Spanish-language version of “We Are The World.”   The track also features Carlos Santana, David Archuleta, Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, Juanes, Paulina Rubio, Pitbull, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, just to name a few.   Emilio Estefan and Quincy Jones have co-produced the track which is out now.   The exclusive, world-wide premiere of the song’s music video will air on tonight at 10 PM Eastern on El Show de Cristina (The Cristina Show) on the Univision Network. An exclusive one-hour, behind-the-scenes special will also air on the Univision Network at a later date to be announced.

MADONNA BUYS MORE FARM LAND

Madonna has just added 23-acres to her farm in upstate New York, spending two-million dollars to go with the 26-acres that she already had.   According to the New York Post, Madonna only owns the agricultural rights to the properties, so she can’t build anything, but it does give her a lot of extra room for her horses to run free.

Madonna is set to direct a film title W.E., which tells the story of the British King Edward VIII, and apparently the pop star has just got an actress to sign on to play a major role.   According to ContactMusic.com, Australian actress Abbie Cornish will appear in the flick as someone obsessed with the royal family.   Madonna is also supposedly trying to get Vera Farmiga to be in the film as well.

MEL B TO HOST DWTS?

Could Melanie Brown, probably better known as Scary Spice, be the next host of Dancing with the Stars?   TMZ is reporting that the singer is in the running to take Samantha Harris’ spot on the hit show, and that she went in for a screen test on Thursday.   No word yet on if she got the job or not.

JOHN MAYER DOESN’T WANT TO BE AN A**HOLE

John Mayer has been getting a lot of flack for his comments made in a recent interview with Playboy, and in his own words, thinks that he has been coming off as an “a**hole.”   The singer-songwriter opened up while on stage during one of his shows in New York City last week, saying that he hates to be giving that impression, and then thanked his fans for continuing to believe in him.   According to ContactMusic.com, Mayer went on to say that “It’s a clean me, people, clean me.”

LILY ALLEN’S NOT RETIRING QUITE YET

Lily Allen was all set to retire from music this month, but now it appears that those plans have been pushed back.   The pop singer wrote on her Twitter account that she will now be leaving music in June, after she supports Jay-Z at a show in London.   See if Lily changes her mind yet again, by follow her at Twitter.com/LilyRoseAllen.

LILY ALLEN TALKS COURTNEY LOVE

There have been reports that Lily Allen and Courtney Love got into a fight at the NME Awards last week in London.   Allen address the rumors on her Twitter account, saying that there was “an exchange of words” between the two backstage, and that she told the Hole frontwoman to “stop spreading stupid rumors” about her.   She went to say that she would never fight with Love, because she “doesn’t pick on crazy old ladies.”   Read more at Twitter.com/LilyRoseAllen.
