MTV RADIO’S MORNING FACTS FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 10th, 2010

KE$HA NOTCHES THIRD STRAIGHT WEEK AT NUMBER ONE!  

Ke$ha maintains her hold atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as “TiK ToK” logs a third week at number one.   Meanwhile, Lady Gaga rebounds to number two on the Hot 100 with “Bad Romance.” Iyaz’s “Replay” slides one spot to number three, while Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” climbs to number four and Owl City’s “Fireflies” drops to number five.

FORMER JACKSON ADVISOR SUES FOX NEWS

A former adviser to Michael Jackson is suing Fox News for copyright infringement, claiming the cable channel aired portions of an interview with the singer’s ex-wife without proper payment or permission. The lawsuit in federal court by producer F. Marc Schaffel seeks damages from Fox News for airing portions of the 2003 interview with Debbie Rowe after Jackson’s death in June. The suit states a significant amount of the interview was used for Geraldo Rivera’s July 5th show.   Schaffel, who once sued Jackson and won a judgment against him, owns the copyright to the Rowe interview. Portions of the interview initially aired on the FOX network in 2003.   A jury awarded Schaffel 900-thousand dollars, but also awarded Jackson with 200-thousand dollars as part of a countersuit.

LADY GAGA TO TAKE THE STAGE WITH BOY GEORGE?

Is Lady Gaga set to take the stage with Boy George?   According to ContactMusic.com, a source says that the pair will take the stage together at the O2 Arena in London sometime in February. The insider said that, “Gaga has always been a fan and now he’s got his life back on track it’s the perfect opportunity to do something with him.”   Gaga has said in the past that she wanted to be like the Culture Club frontman when she was in high school.

DETAILS OF RUSSELL BRAND’S PROPOSAL

British paper The Sun has gotten their hands on the details regarding Russell Brand’s proposal to Katy Perry.   Apparently, the comedian popped the question at a luxurious Indian hotel where the couple was staying.   He also prepared for the pop star to be clothed in a thousand-dollar traditional Indian dress for the evening.   Also, Brand hid the ring in a bouquet of flowers and when Perry found it, he proposed and she immediately said yes.   The paper also says that Brand has reportedly already named his manager, Nik Linnen, as his best man.
 
KATY PERRY WANTS RUSSELL TO STAY OFF DRUGS

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are engaged, and if they’re going to stay that way, the comedian has to follow one thing very, very strictly.   According to British paper The Daily Star, Perry would leave Brand if he ever got back on drugs.   The periodical quotes her as saying that “drugs are a huge, huge deal breaker.”

TAYLOR SWIFT TO USE 3D TECHNOLOGY

Taylor Swift is now a Global Brand Ambassador for Sony products. She made a surprise appearance at Sony’s exhibit at the Consumer Electronics Show conference in Las Vegas on her way to the People’s Choice Awards last Wednesday. Specifically, Taylor is excited to use Sony’s 3D technology and told the audience she will be using the product to document her upcoming tour, which kicks off next month. As of yet, there is no news as to whether the footage she captures will be made available to the public.

ROB THOMAS CONTEST WINNER

A little while back, Rob Thomas asked his fans to submit pictures of themselves wearing one of his t-shirts at different places around the world, and the matchbox twenty frontman has picked what he thinks is the best one.   It came from Richie C., who is playing the guitar in a Rob Thomas shirt in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.   Check out the pic now at RobThomasMusic.com.

CHRIS DAUGHTRY IS BACK ON TWITTER

Chris Daughtry is one of the more avid users of Twitter when it comes to musicians, but now, the former American Idol contestant has vowed to change his ways.   Daughtry and John Mayer both promised to kick off 2010 without using the social networking site for the first week of the year, and now that it’s over, Chris is back, but will be spending “less time” on the site than he was before.   He wrote that taking the time he wasn’t spending on Twitter and spending it with his family instead “has been a gift.”   Follow Chris at Twitter.com/Chris_Daughtry. <ZS>

 CARRIE UNDERWOOD IN TRAINING FOR WEDDING AND TOUR

Carrie Underwood told a Canadian radio station she’s enlisted the help of a trainer to get her in shape for her wedding and tour. Carrie has previously relied on keeping a food diary, swearing off junk food and working out regular to slim down. She even brings her own groceries when she visits her family in Oklahoma because “fitness isn’t a way of life there,” in her opinion. She confesses she gains weight when she’s stressed and her trouble spot is her midsection. After high school, she gained ten pounds and then gained ten more on American Idol. The highest weight she’s been is 130 for her five-foot, three-inch frame.

DRAKE TO DELIVER “EMOTIONS” ON DEBUT LP

Billboard.com reports Drake plans to follow the same formula he used on his So Far Gone mixtape on his debut album, Thank Me Later. Similar to the mixtape, Drizzy intends to give a consistent story with real emotions. The emcee wants to “make music for people to get lost in it, so, as long as it takes you somewhere, then I’ve succeeded.” The Young Money artist expects to drop his Thank Me Later disc in March.

 JOHN LEGEND, HUDSON PERFORMS FOR OBAMA

To honor Black History Month, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson have been tapped to perform during an hour long special titled A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement. The entertainers will join Seal and Smokey Robinson as they help President Barack Obama highlight the accomplishments of the civil rights in the 1950’s and 1960’s on February 10th.   The event is scheduled to air on February 11th on PBS.

BUJU BANTON PLEADS NOT GUILTY

Billboard.com reports Buju Banton has pled not guilty to all drug charges related to his recent arrest. Last month, the reggae star allegedly attempted to buy five kilograms of cocaine from an undercover police officer. Banton’s lawyers revealed they have no plans of seeking a deal and firmly believe the Jamaican singer is innocent. We’ll keep you posted with further updates.

WHY PARAMORE DIDN’T DO NEW MOON

Paramore had a huge hit with the track “Decode” off the first Twilight soundtrack, so why did the band not participate in New Moon? Singer Hayley Williams told MTV News that they turned down the offer to be on the soundtrack because they didn’t want to “force anything” and they wanted it to be “genuine.” That doesn’t mean that Williams doesn’t love the vampire series though and she adores the New Moon soundtrack as well, especially the tracks from Death Cab For Cutie and Bon Iver. Paramore’s album, Brand New Eyes, is out now.

DIDDY TEAMS WITH DR DRE FOR NEW HEADPHONES

On Thursday, Diddy and Dr. Dre announced their new collaboration together. No, it’s not an album or new single. Puff has followed in Dre’s footsteps to make his own headphones called Diddy Beats. During a press conference event held at Paris Las Vegas, the mogul explained he “wanted something that looked like fashion, but just wasn’t all about fashion.” The sleek in-ear headphones will retail for $179.95 dollars.
