Yesterday at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France, Madonna was scheduled to perform for the European leg of her Sticky & Sweet tour. However, only tragedy occurred.
While constructing the stage for the stadium, the roof collapsed, killing a 53-year old French man, and a 32 year-old British citizen. Along with the two fatalities, were six other injured who were rushed to the hospital.
The accident happened when a crane collapsed while lifting a large metallic truss into place.
Madonna has now released a statement about the accident:
“I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,” the singer said in a statement. “My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.”
