New Amsterdam Records is excited to announce that Ted Hearne’s new album Outlanders, is now available as a digital download. Listen to the album and buy it on Bandcamp here. You can also get it on iTunes, Amazon, and all other major digital retailers.
Outlanders is a personal compendium of songs by Ted Hearne, written over the course of the last eight years, inspired and recorded by some of his favorite New York musicians. In Hearne’s characteristic compositional voice, these songs are bold yet intricately layered. They comprise a collage work of contrasting textures and styles, ranging from the rock ballad (Protection) to the synthy (I Mean Well), from the intimate (I Want Never) to the orchestral (Is It Dirty) to the downright operatic (359 Each Time).

LUCY DACUS SHARES FULL STREAM OF STUNNING DEBUT
After a childhood of primarily musical theater and Bruce Springsteen thanks to her mom and dad, Lucy Dacus bought an acoustic guitar and taught herself some chords with hopes of one day being the cool girl at church camp. Luckily things changed in high school when kind friends showed her Broken Social Scene, Yo La Tengo, and Ava Luna- bands she continues to listen to regularly. Lucy quickly fell in love with the Richmond, VA music scene and did what she could to sneak into 18+ shows during her high school years, always content as a spectator, not yet participating despite the encouragement of friends. When she decided to study film in college, people were surprised and would say, “not music?” It took years of convincing, confidence building, and a great change of heart before Lucy decided to pursue music.

GRIFFIN HOUSE NEW VIDEO
Griffin House releases the first single “Yesterday Lies” off his forthcoming album So On and So Forth today. Paste Magazine selected the music video of the song, which is already being added by AAA and Americana radio stations, for an exclusive premiere this week.
When asked about the track House describes, “It occurred to me one day that maybe I was remembering the past differently than it actually was. It’s easy to look back with rose-colored glasses on life and the ‘good old days,’ but was it really that great? The past can often play back in my mind like a movie, and movies alway feel like a more desirable place to live than in the present reality. In the song, I’m trying to tell my ego and Yesterday that I know they are lonely for my attention, but I’m focusing on the work I have to do in the here and now, and I believe the best days are in front of me, not far down the line, but right here in the moment.” Paste Magazine calls it, “A truly beautiful sentiment for a beautiful song.”

BETSY “FAIR”
Betsy says: “I wrote and recorded ‘Fair’ in a state of complete despair during the final throes of a relationship. Writing it made me realise that it really was over. It’s about wanting to leave but not being strong enough to. In the video I wanted to reflect the feeling of suffocation and madness I felt at that moment. I’m a big fan of David Lynch, and I remembered the scene in ‘Wild At Heart’ where Lula’s mother loses the plot and covers herself in lipstick. It spoke to me because that was the delirium I was feeling and pretty much the way I was looking, hunched over my keyboard, bar the lipstick.”

PHEDRE NEW SINGLE
Toronto melted-pop duo Phèdre make music for escaping. The visually evocative soundscapes emerging on their previous releases take form like a great comic; a concise narrative, bright colors, and psychedelic textures. If comic books had strobe lights Phedre’s certainly would.

KOSHA DILLZ X MURS
Hip Hop has grown into something massive and beyond our own control. Our parents now listen to it, and our friends who hate hip hop have even found ways to like certain kinds of hip hop. For Jewish freestyle rapper Kosha Dillz, “We Are Different” has become his live anthem on tour, celebrating his weirdness and off centered niche with west coast Living Legend Murs. When Murs’ and Kosha first met in Sioux Falls, South Dakota it certainly wasn’t their similarities that brought them together. Years later they connected again and Kosha landed a spot on the coveted Paid Dues Festival in San Bernardino along side Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Rapsody, Mac Miller and more. Murs came on to do Kosha Dillz’ annual OY VEY SXSW event twice @ SXSW, and then released this song and album on Label 316. Similar to the video, OY VEY SXSW thrives on connecting different acts and genres on one bill.
ME LIKE BEES VIDEO DEBUT
Indie rock quartet Me Like Bees has released an imaginative new music video for their single “Tundraland”, off the upcoming EP There Will Be Time. The video follows a mischievous young pup (played by the band’s vocalist Luke Scheafer) and his day on the town which results in some potentially serious consequences.
“We enjoy humiliating Luke, so we came up with the idea of putting him in a dog costume,” says guitarist Pete Burton (who also plays the story’s villainous dog catcher). “It was a pretty fun shoot! I pulled my hamstring though…it took like two weeks to heal. It was a bad pull!”

HEIN COOPER COVERS KANYE WEST’S “RUNAWAY”
Aussie singer-songwriter HEIN COOPER captivates in this smooth cover of KANYE WEST’S “RUNAWAY”.
Shot in black and white in a sparse room, the video portrays Cooper as a groom who ran away from his wedding. “One of my favourite styles of music is rap/hip hop and one of my favourite albums is Kanye West’s ‘MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY’. And I’ve always wondered what it would be like to turn one of his songs into a moody folk song.” So there it is, Hein Cooper’s mesmerizing take as his rich vocals give even more depth to this masterpiece.
