BRENT JOHNSON NEW SINGLE & RECORD DEAL
Canadian label Justin Time Records announces the signing of New Orleans-based blues/rock guitarist Brent Johnson and will release his debut album, Set the World on Fire, on April 8. Johnson is backed on the new CD by his road-tested band of Bill Blok (bass, backing vocals), John Perkins (drums) and Wayne Lohr (keyboards), along with special guest guitarists Alvin Youngblood Hart, who adds his scintillating touch on three tracks, and legendary slide master Sonny Landreth on one song. Set the World on Fire was produced by Brent Johnson and recorded/mixed by Ben Lorio at The Music Shed in New Orleans.
“My sound is rooted in the blues, though I don’t pretend to be a purist, and I don’t want to be,” Johnson explains. “I write music based on my experiences and the sounds I grew up with; I never want to pretend that I had the same experiences as the old bluesmen did, so I’m not going to go around trying to sound like them. What I do is put the emphasis on the feeling of the music, the passion, the urgency, the directness – that’s the goal.”

NEW ENGLAND’S JOYNER LUCAS “MYERS BRIGGS”
Brownie points to anyone knowing that Myers Briggs is a personality test, administered to give the taker insight into what ‘type’ of person they are as a tool for self-awareness and betterment. For the purpose of New England wordsmith Joyner Lucas’ new song though, consider it a “Looking Ass N*gga” for those with a more intellectual musical palette. Over a bouncy Mr. Kooman-produced beat, Joyner unleashes his personal ‘people-watching’ observations, pulling off the layers of disguise to uncover the fakes, losers, rats and users who hide beneath their internet personalities and exterior trappings of success and infect our daily lives.

DEBUT SINGLE POSTED BY BONDAGE & DISCIPLINE
Bondage & Discipline make big gestures feel personal. They’re believers in pop as the transportive vehicle and as the personal catharsis. The Philadelphia three-piece formed in late 2013 after breaking from local indie rock mainstay The National Rifle. Recorded at south Philadelphia’s Cambridge Sound with producer Todd Mecaughey, they’re releasing “Only Your Love” as the new project’s mission statement. It’s as if Kevin Shields helmed the second British invasion. It’s anglophilic nostalgia that belongs to no real timeline. However, “Only Your Love” will also sweep you into it’s own world. One where the emotions are immediate and the highs are exhilarating.
