Lemon from Amsterdam are dropping their seventh #lemon12 single on July 18, titled Power — a track with a laid-back summer groove. And it’s not shy about it, clocking in at over six minutes. But Power isn’t just about chilled vibes — it carries a serious message. The song urges listeners not to just sit back and watch what’s happening in the world. Think Bob Marley’s Get Up, Stand Up.
Power is all about that dangerous thing called, well, power. Even people who start out with the best intentions can lose their way when they get too much of it — or stay in control for too long. Lemon doesn’t need a lot of words to get the message across: “Power makes the people blind. Power makes them lose their mind. Like a heavy drug it messes up their head. Power makes good people turn bad. Don’t be blind.”
Music blogs have described Lemon’s sound as Soul Rock, Indie Funk, Shoegaze Dance Pop, Neo Madchester, “a blend of Madchester, soul rock, and pop rock,” or even “the future of indie music.” Coming from The Netherlands, Lemon themselves call it Nedchester. The band have released five albums and a wide range of singles to date. Known for their high-energy live shows, they’ve opened for legends like Primal Scream, The Charlatans, and Stereo MC’s.
Stereo MC’s singer Cath Coffey appeared as guest vocalist on three of the #lemon12 singles released earlier this year — all of which received rave reviews. On Power, singer Yasmina van Gurp adds the powerful soul touch that Lemon love to weave into their sound. Power!
