The Grab Brothers Band shows the yin and yang of classic rock with “Traffic Jam” & “Lifetime.” Genres picked with the group run the gamut from glam rock to psychedelic folk pop. Whatever tactic they like, what remains the same is how they let the vocals rest at the center of the sound. Such an emotional rollercoaster, they express wanting to break free from feeling trapped in the Traffic Jam to the sense of peace that comes with the cyclical, soft-spoken Lifetime. Production adds to the appeal, allowing them to feel wonderful.
Immediately, they start with fanfare on the fantastic “Traffic Jam.” The name hints at irony as this is a jam sort of style, with the interplay amongst the band feeling downright liberating. Besides the clear nods to classic rock, psychedelic rock and funk elements filter into the fray. Vocals rest right in the center of the whole thing, allowing a wild, animalistic presence to take hold as the song constantly increases in energy. Soft breezes on the beach define the soothing “Lifetime.” With this track, there is a sense of exploring the entirety of the world in a reserved, respectful manner. Volume is turned down, and the acoustic flair of the guitar becomes readily apparent. Even little flourishes on the edges of the song do not take away from the campfire intimacy of the setting.
Everything in “Traffic Jam” and “Lifetime” shows off the tremendous range of the Grab Brothers Band in delivering this satisfying, soulful slice of rock.
