Multi-cultural jazz compositions come to life on Patricio Morales’ new album titled ‘La Tierra Canta’. Classical guitarist Patricio Morales combines his Chilean roots with elements of classical, jazz and world. There is a sentimental value here for Patricio because the nine tracks on ‘La Tierra Canta’ were written when Morales was just starting out as a composer. These compositions mean the world to Patricio and are near & dear to his heart making ‘La Tierra Canta’ a very special and reflective listening experience.
Patricio wrote new arrangements for this album and brought in talented players from Chile, Argentina, Columbia, Brazil and Peru. Members include: Patricio Morales on Classical Guitar, Vitor Goncalves on Piano & Accordion, Sebastian De Urquiza on Upright Bass, Rodrigo Recabarren on Drums and Percussion, Rogério Boccato on Brazilian Percussion, Daniel Zamalloa on Mandolin, Kahil Nayton on*Cavaquinho, Pablo Menares on Upright Bass on Track 3 and Juan Andrés Ospina handling Additional Arrangements on Tracks 1, 3, 8, 9. The final result is just magnificent and a breath of fresh air to hear. With a flawless technique in place, Patricio Morales has created something quite remarkable making ‘La Tierra Canta’ one momentous occasion.
The record kicks off with the title track “La Tierra Canta” and right away a highly-spirited and fan-friendly vibe hits you. Colorful and unique dynamics & textures are present making “La Tierra Canta” a standout single. Next, an appealing beat can be heard on “Armando” and like Gloria Estefan once said “Rhythm is gonna get you”. A solid arrangement is intact as “Armando” comes to light in grand splendor making this composition a pure joy to listen to. “Tale Of Tales” is told next and the aura will intrigue your ears with a worldly mystique that is captivating. Track four, “Canción Para Despedir a Emilia”, offers up a dose of silkiness making this an intimate performance overall. A bit of romance is in the air, so light the candles and enjoy “Canción Para Despedir a Emilia”. The musical canvass is picturesque on the following number “Rural Reflections” as Patricio provides a healthy splash of vibrant tones that will inspire you. Track six, “Pa’Pascal”, contains a playful atmosphere that makes for one fun-filled environment. “Pa’Pascal” is like a carnival of sorts with notes that come in all different shapes & sizes, so come ONE, come ALL! Brace yourself for the next composition titled “de Diciembre” that is an emotional journey filled with the utmost sincerity. Patricio is on track and heading in the right direction on “Realismo Mágico”. “Realismo Mágico” is revealed here that will excite and amaze the audience. The tricky rhythmic pattern will keep you on your toes on “Realismo Mágico”, so be alert folks! Patricio ends on a high note with “Keep In Touch” where the welcoming mat is laid out and the listener will feel a sense of comfort surround them. “Keep In Touch” will keep you dialed in with a creative sound & style that many will gravitate toward.
There is a cinematic quality detected at times on this new release, which makes sense since Patricio does have experience with film composition. Also, the accordion and classical guitar combo is so unique and really rattles your eardrums in a good way. Patricio Morales honors his heritage and memories in a most profound way on ‘La Tierra Canta’.
