Daniel Garbin is a highly-skilled guitarist and sitar player who has put together seven original compositions that make up ‘Rising’. Daniel Garbin puts together a talented quintet on ‘Rising’ and they are: Camila Cortina Bello on piano & keys, Scott Litroff on alto saxophone, Eddy Khaimovich on electric and acoustic bass and Brian Woodruff on drums. Daniel wrote and produced all songs with the exception of three tracks who he co-wrote with Simona Pop. Daniel Garbin grew up in Romania where he learned guitar and was surrounded by Romanian folklore music. As a young teen, Daniel performed rock, blues, flamenco, fusion and several forms of jazz. After moving to the US, Garbin played Latin rock music, co-founded the jazz fusion band INOAN, played famed Greenwich Village jazz clubs, and became interested in Indian Classical Music, picking up the sitar. This interesting background fuels the inventiveness of ‘Rising’ where listeners will hear a variety of elements and styles throughout this 7-song set.
The record kicks off with the title track, “Rising”, where an exotic melody instantly draws you in. An insightful and intriguing sound fills the air and pleases your ears on “Rising”. By way of a wonderful arrangement, unique approach and pristine instrumentation, “Rising” offers instant appeal. “Simi’s Bossa” is next and provides a pleasant vibe and soothing flow overall. Track five, “DSD”, offers up soul-stirring chords that bounce around and dance in your thoughts. “DSD” proves to be a cool, easy-listening jam that would be a great addition to your personal playlist.
