American retro jazz diva Laura Ainsworth specializes in giving the Great American Songbook a new lease on life through unique arrangements and creative videos. Her reinvention of the James Bond movie theme “Goldfinger” as a sultry ballad with a film noir-style lyric video enjoyed worldwide acclaim. Now, she’s debuting a new lyric video for her rendition of the 1962 Broadway ballad “Once Upon A Time.”
“Once Upon a Time” is one of Laura’s favorite tracks from her latest album, a collection of audience requests entitled You Asked For It. In the lyric video, her heart rending vocal is illustrated with stunning visuals by animator Moung Marma, which beautifully and simply depict the passage of time and the loss of innocent first love.
Laura’s prior studio albums are Keep It To Yourself (2011), Necessary Evil (2013) and New Vintage (2017). In 2019, Laura’s music made its way to the Japanese market, with record store chain Disk Union picking up her best-of vinyl LP Top Shelf (2017) for distribution. Japanese distributor Ratspack Records then reissued Top Shelf as an expanded mini-LP CD in September 2021. In May 2022, South Korean distributor Music Island debuted her latest album You Asked For It to the Korean market. Japan followed suit, with Ratspack Records releasing You Asked For It on mini-LP CD in July of the same year.
Laura’s performances have earned her critical acclaim and industry honors throughout the world. She has been featured in periodicals such as Down Beat, Broadway World, Jazz Critique, and CD Journal. Her appearance in two best-selling international compilations led to a tour of India and Dubai. In 2018, she scored an unprecedented three-award sweep of the AMG Heritage Awards for Female Vocalist, Album and Video of the Year. She has received three Global Music Awards bronze medals, four Clouzine International Music Awards, two Akademia Music Awards and seven Josie Music Awards nominations. You Asked For It is nominated for Album and Female Vocalist of the Year in the AMG Awards, which will be presented at a televised ceremony in October.
