Doug Ferony Presents ‘Alright Okay You Win’ With His Swingin Big Band Out October 1, 2024

A swinging, classic big band style rolls through as “Alright Okay You Win” reflects the fantastic arrangements of Doug Ferony. Everything here deserves to be blasted at the highest possible volume. He takes on physicality with the sound, from the spry rhythms to the exceptional horn section that interjects at all the best times. Nods to the midcentury classics, like the rat pack leader Frank Sinatra, loom large within the mix. To Doug’s credit, he updates and tweaks that formula ever so slightly, bringing it into the modern age while retaining that timeless cool

“We’ve Only Just Begun” sets the tone for the album, keeping things tight with some incredibly infectious hooks. The call and response of “Alright Okay You Win” has a playful, sly demeanor that gives it a sense of humor. Horns stumble through the expansive scope of “A Hundred Years From Now.” Softer in scope is the unabashedly romantic leanings of “Always On My Mind,” which feels downright devotion, slowing the pace down just a bit. “You Make Me Feel So Young” has a spring as it races through gleefully. Lyrics matter with the sense of care that frames “It All Depends On You.” A lovely take on a beloved standard is the amazingly agile “All of Me.” Rhythms hit with a punch on the longing of “I Wish I Were In Love Again,” which lets loose. “I’ve Got The World On a String” ties the rest of the album together in a soothing, relaxing fashion.

Doug Ferony presents a slice of soulful heaven with the comforting “Alright Okay You Win.”
