Lake & Lyndale explores the art of letting go on Americana stunner “The Sequel”

Nashville-based Americana band Lake & Lyndale has just released a new single, “The Sequel.” Lead singer Channing Krentz recently sat down with @skopemag to talk about this amazing new song.

@skopemag: Tell us about your terrific new single, “The Sequel.”

Channing Krentz: I was talking to a friend about “Schitt’s Creek,” one of my favorite shows, and how I thought they did it perfectly, because the end of the series left you wanting more. That led to thinking about all the movie sequels that don’t measure up to the original. I thought “The Sequel” was such a good title. I took it into Alex Kiel and Zack Dyer, and we decided to tell the story of that on and off relationship where you break up for the right reasons but then get back together in hopes that you can recapture the magic it had in the beginning.

@skopemag: Tell us about the process of creating this song.

Channing: It immediately felt like something special. We had a clear vision of how we wanted it to sound. We went to pre-production where the boys (Jon Krentz [guitar], Eric Clifford [bass], Tyler Kloewer [drums]), our producer, and I chatted about the “vibe” for the song, and we started playing with different ideas. The boys went on to lay down the “bones” of the song and added different parts. We wanted the vocals to really support the lyrics and wanted them to sound “simple.” Alex added some background vocals that capture the sentiment of the song.

@skopemag: What do you hope the message is?

Channing: The message for “The Sequel” is that sometimes you have to let things go. It can be hard, but maybe it’s ok and even for the better. This song looks at that relationship you keep going back to through the lens of someone who goes to see the sequel of their favorite movie and comes out wildly disappointed.

@skopemag: Can fans see you on tour?

Channing: We have an upcoming show at the 5 Spot in Nashville Sept. 5th. Visit our website lakeandlyndale.com for our full show calendar.
