Dallas, TX-based Americana singer-songwriter Evan Boyer has just released a new single, “Home to You,” a rollicking nod to a supportive spouse. Boyer sat down with @skopemag to talk about this heartfelt tribute to his wife.
@skopemag: Tell us about your amazing single, “Home to You.”
Evan Boyer: Painted with a broad brush, it’s about a spouse who sticks by you no matter how flawed you are. Specifically it’s about my wife, who has stuck by me through all of my ups and downs.
@skopemag: Are there particular lyrics in the song that really resonate for you?
Evan: The first line, “Baby, I’m running out for whisky, please don’t give me that look. Just try your best to miss me, I’m so misunderstood.” It just encompasses so much truth and says so much without having to say too much. I’m usually a stickler about rhyme-schemes, and “look” and “stood” don’t really rhyme, ha ha, but it just sounded so honest I couldn’t change it.
@skopemag: Tell us about your songwriting process for this song.
Evan: Typically, when I feel inspired to write, I’ll grab an acoustic and my phone and give myself 30 minutes to figure something out, then I’ll do a scratch recording of it. The next day, I’ll go back and give it a listen, and if it’s good I’ll keep it. This song was different; after I wrote that first verse, I stopped myself because I really liked those first few lines and wanted to give myself some time to think about what the song was truly about. I took my time and eventually came back to it, and I’m super happy with how it turned out. I should probably use that writing formula more often.
@skopemag: What is one word that you would use to describe how you feel about releasing this single?
Evan: Man, that’s hard… I’d have to say grateful. I’ve had this song ready to record since August of 2022, and the road from a scratch track to the release is a long one. I’m just grateful people can finally listen to it.
