A neo-cubist semi-deconstructionist blues guitarist and a purveyor of post-apocalyptic junkyard drone pop (c/o Jasper Willems) may not indicate the most likely of collaborators but that’s exactly what we have on our menu here. Geiger von Muller (GVM), the bottleneck axman in question, first released Blue Moon Frequency #2b in 2018. It came as part of a music video trilogy, a retro-futuristic anti-war themed collaboration with cgi director Paal-V. The trilogy explored the formation and eventual disintegration of dark structures and gloomy technology.
Then entered Elizabeth Joan Kelly (EJK) who manipulates, distends, and otherwise mangles von Muller’s slide guitar lines into a downtempo sludgefest in this gloomy summer remix. Expect a volley of percussive effects and a somewhat sinister echo-soundscape.
In turn, the direttore remixed the visuals following a stern, uber-minimalist discipline to finely match the electronic tune. Future and past are merged in the imagery with a vintage zep suffering unexpected manipulation in a marvelous trap set by cutting edge 3D anim trickery.
