Layer upon layer of sound come together revealing lighter colors until the finale drops out the distortion in exchange for soaring strings. Choirs enter the mix on the tortured tumult of “Cyprian & The Ambergris Geist”. Over the course of the piece the way that things slowly unfold reveal a true talent for form. Quite mysterious in its approach the song’s twists and turns are unexpected. By far the highlight of the collection is the joyful closer “Juratus & The Sulfur Psalm”. Within this singular piece A Cunning Man incorporates a celebratory spirit into the mix as the song grows in scope.
